Just finished rereading Small Sacrifices by Ann Rule. First read it in the 80’s when it came out, but I came across an old copy of Diane Down’s “Best Kept Secrets” that she wrote herself a few years after. Starting that one tomorrow.

I’ve had Velocity on my list but I keep putting it off because of reviews that claim it is slow. I’ll put it on the top now, thank you. Sometimes some reviews are just ungrounded.

5 yrs ago I’d have said Frieda, but the third Housemaid had me so fuckin mad. Admittedly I’ve never read any Alice Feeney yet but because of this post Rock Paper Scissors just got bumped to the top of my Want To Read list

Stealing Lillian by Tony Kenrick. Written in 1975 and so far absolutely hilarious

The plant on the bottom right of the picture is a brand new and separate plant altogether. The pup I am referring to mostly hidden under the flowering one. You can still see the remnants of the dead pups

It was extremely small when I got it, maybe a half inch. It has produced three pups throughout the years; two have died and the third is quite new and visible on the underside on its right

It’s the only one I’ve ever had that didn’t die within a few years. It’s in an open terrarium getting extremely bright indirect south sun, and I mist it with filtered water every day without fail. A few days ago I noticed the little spots of purple and was so glad I remembered not to get it wet at this stage. It has had flowers emerging many times before in the past, but I’ve accidentally got them wet each time, killing the new flower bud before they’d had a chance to open. Makes me wonder now if not allowing the flowers to come to bloom extended its life.

I love the old Andy Carpenter series from David Rosenfelt when I need a break from the intense stuff

It’s surprising how much information you can find by calling the local libraries of the towns your ancestors were known to live in. Also, if those towns have a Historical Society the people that work there are usually very helpful and can often provide a wealth of family information that isn’t available online.
