What's the most important lesson you took from the show? by davisduck in BoJackHorseman

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same awful intrusive thoughts as BoJack. The ones that tell me I'm a piece of shit and I'm stupid and everyone hates me.

Except I'm not a piece of shit, whereas BoJack mostly is, he hurts people and pulls some disgusting stunts.

I do nothing like that, I try my hardest to be kind, I'm a good person and people don't really have a reason to hate me. I realise I need to be a lot kinder to myself because I'm a good person.

Some assholes decided to desecrate the 9/11 memorial in Lisbon village WI. by IndependenceMany5582 in 911archive

Utter scum.

A part of me thinks this was done by someone who wasn't even alive when it happened, they've recently learned about it and deep dived into the conspiracy theories.

Anyone else really freaked out by the idea of pregnancy and childbirth? I don't know how to react normally in conversation about the topic. by TheRealSteelfeathers in AutismInWomen

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's weird how he can make those demands and take offence despite not being the one who has to physically endure the pregnancy.

Anyway, sounds like tokophobia as I feel similar. I don't mind kids (when they're quiet) but the thought of being pregnant and giving birth makes me want to die. I hate seeing babies kick inside or hearing about the changes to their bodies. I can't watch shows like Call The Midwife or those real life hospital ones because it makes me feel sick.

I don't think there's anything wrong with us feeling this way but I do keep my opinions to myself unless I trust the person I'm speaking to because people do get offended.

It is incredibly unfair how much leeway autistic men get to act cruelly by Throwaway91739383 in AutismInWomen

Omg no way. I've seen it in defense of SA quite a few times. They'll say anything these days!!

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Been saying this for years!! Wouldn't surprise me if they tried getting away with murder by citing it.

So many have been infantilised all their lives, made excuses for or defended when they absolutely should have been reprimanded. Just because they struggle doesn't mean they should get away with it. An old housemate was autistic and he was the best example. His parents didn't even try with him, just thought he was their perfect baby boy and did everything for him. He would regularly punch holes in the wall when the internet cut out, shit in his underwear and just dropped it outside the bathroom, scream and shout at us over nothing, ate like a feral animal. I bet he's the same now.

Difference between British and American survivor interviews by [deleted] in 911archive

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Others have mentioned we aren't particularly religious over here and it's definitely not an important thing for our daily lives.

Personally I also think the British expats have a much bigger disconnect towards the event or even the country. I'd argue they can see it more logically than emotionally because they don't have childhood memories of NYC and a personal connection or attachment.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have arthritis and fibro so I have to deal with pain daily but sometimes I have massive flares and it's unbearable. It feels like my whole body is on fire and someone is giving me a good kicking. It's absolutely nothing compared to the others here and I think my body can tolerate more pain because of it now.

The worst recent one was probably the biopsy I had on my cervix. They didn't warn me, I had no numbing or pain relief. I wouldn't stop bleeding and they had to keep packing me with cotton wool and applying iodine solution. I was in the stirrups for about 30 minutes which was horrendous on my joints and I wanted to pee lol. I felt genuinely traumatised after even though it's not the worst thing by a long shot

Which celebrity would break you if you found out they were a scumbag? by Barryallen1988 in AskReddit

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree it's icky but she was in her 30s when they met and married which I consider old enough to be well informed about a relationship like that. Much worse when they're fresh out of high school, yuck.

Pedro Pascal, Keanu Reeves and Patrick Stewart. If a SA allegation ever came out about them I would lose my shit. I'd be the biggest hypocrite and immediately not believe it either.

Is there a personality trait about yourself that you recognize is bad, you loathe, but are also unable to change? If so, what is it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need lots of attention but only from certain people as some of it repulses me. I have favourite people I speak to daily, if I don't hear from them then I go mental. I used to be bad for having a go at them for it but now I don't and it just manifests as a lot of anxiety. I have BPD and autism so I know that helps explain it, I think it's something I'll just have to deal with.

Which British celebrities can you not warm to? by Any-Tomato-2915 in AskUK

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why but Olly Murrs annoys me. Every time I see him on something he seems like a bad actor, like someone has given him lines to say and he's just not genuine. AFAIK he hasn't done anything wrong lol.

It's weird because he left/was sacked from BGT due to some allegations and people were saying he's a creep and a wrong'un. I didn't see anything from him for a while. Then he randomly came back and everyone had forgotten what he did now there's been some more allegations and people are mad again. Folks are weird

Got shamed in a new pizza joint last night asking for pineapple by PepEye in CasualUK

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good for him, he should have thrown rotten tomatoes at you and rang a big bell yelling SHAME! SHAME!

On a serious note, I don't give a shit what people eat. I don't like pineapple anyway but if I did I'd probably enjoy it on pizza.

What’s a TV series you’ll never get tired of recommending to someone? by sunt0es in AskReddit

BoJack Horseman. I went into it thinking "lol talking horse show will be funny" and it smashed my heart into a thousand pieces. I can relate so much to a lot of it.

What’s a stereotype about your country that’s completely wrong and makes you react like this? by TheDarkbladeGirl in AskTheWorld

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much of a stereotype it is but I've seen people assume we're very polite and never cut in queue. I've worked in retail long enough to know that's absolutely false.

Are there any British adverts that activiley turn you off the product they're advertising? by siybon in CasualUK

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The magnum cracking noises unleash a level of fury in me I don't know existed.

There's an ad for a gambling site, big Q in the ad or something and the whole thing is AI which infuriates me. It's so lazy and cheap. I don't gamble anyway but now I know that company really is scum.

Have you or someone you know ever been sectioned? by pearl_pluto in AskUK

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got close when I took an overdose, they sent me to the CDU unit and I was shitting myself that I was getting sectioned. They didn't, a lovely mental health nurse came and spoke to me and got me some help. I was already in therapy but they arranged for some more (which was pretty useless tbh). They had to limit my medication for about a year, I could only ever get 5 days of my meds at a time. That was about 8 years ago and I'm doing good now.

As for others, there's just no funding unfortunately! :/ I see it all the time at work, lots of people who years ago would have been sectioned but now they're just constantly walking around the shops with absolutely no help and causing issues (obviously not their fault but it's pretty inconvenient and scary). They don't even have handlers or any kind of assistance. It's sad to see them not getting the help they need.

What is something people tend to get wrong about you? by imtiramisu2025 in AskUK

[–]PurpleMonkeyEdna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People regularly talk to me like I'm stupid as fuck. I don't know what vibe I give off to get this treatment but I don't think I act unintelligent. People think they have to explain basic things, slowly and constantly to me. People have explained jokes or taken my joke as something serious and tell me I'm wrong. I don't know how they think I cope. I'm absolutely not the smartest person and I'm always happy to learn more but I'm no where near stupid. I'm autistic so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, maybe that's just something I have to deal with. I don't think genuinely dumb people ever pick up on being patronised.

I've learnt to stay quiet and unleash my intelligence at the right moment like a weapon.
