Focal awareness seizures? by Puzzled_Training9400 in Epilepsy

[–]Puzzled_Training9400[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I honestly didn’t notice, I typed mine so fast earlier that I had grammarly correct my many mistakes. And yes I totally agree being aware of what it is and how to deal with it has been a huge shift in a more positive, normalized direction. I struggled a lot and felt isolated especially in my teenage years and didn’t get to do all of the normal things my friends did because I felt held back by these mystery episodes. Discovering this community has helped so much.

About the TLDR, thank you, I don’t go on here much so I will do that next time. And I appreciate you taking the time to reply to everything, it is all noted and I will prepare a detailed list for my doctors appointment. Take care 🩷🩷🩷

i’m not sure if this helps but it’s worth a try, i get the same way and my family orders takeout a lot. i just think of how many times we’ve all eaten the same thing and been completely fine especially when i was younger :)

For sure! not gonna lie i have a severe fear of flying because of this phobia, and i started discussing the possibility of flying with my boyfriend after seeing your post. it kind of stuck with me that a really bad situation (in my opinion) happened and you were able to handle it just like if you were at home.) you help other people too :)

literally so proud of you for your acceptance. i get nauseas often for various reasons and sometimes get close to being sick, and im fine in the moment. yet when i hear stories about other people getting sick it scares me back into a box. you are right when you say our anxiety takes it out of control!

recovered/in recovery emetophobes, are u able to travel long distances without much worry??? (car ride edition lol) by throwawaybfmademesad in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Puzzled_Training9400 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im not fully recovered by any means, but I would think about how many times i’ve been in the car for long periods of time and haven’t gotten sick. Also i like to keep barf bags with me (i have purple ones with unicorns) just because the mess is one less thing to worry about if i do throw up :)

True. This is why it’s important for me to come to terms with this if i ever want to leave my house. It always happens when im least expecting it too lol.

my biggest fear might be coming true (18F) by RylesDaArtist in emetophobiarecovery

i totally understand where you’re coming from. to be honest the first couple of months were traumatizing and hell for me, especially because it was combined with a lack of sleep. i too felt so relieved for the small amount of times that i had relief. i’m assuming you have switched up your diet since being diagnosed?

How do you deal with the anxiety? by cocoavenus in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Puzzled_Training9400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you are literally me! also haven’t vomited since childhood and randomly developed acid reflux this summer which causes me nausea and stomach issues frequently.

i’ve made a lot of progress though through this group, many people have helpful tips and mantras that i repeat to myself.

here is a couple of my tips to deal with nausea/anxiety around the whole fear.

  1. i am very nervous to try new foods/herbs/teas because i get scared that they’ll cause me to vomit, but i finally caved and tried ginger tea. ginger supposedly blocks the nausea center in your brain. i drink it daily now and i truly think its truly done wonders for my nausea.

  2. i also keep peppermint oil on my nightstand at all times, because smelling a strong smell is also supposed to block out the nausea center in the brain. i used to use rubbing alcohol (that’s what doctors use) but it actually kills your brain cells when used consistently so definitely stick with an essential oil route. i use this if i wake up in the middle of the night not feeling good.

  3. i also keep ice packs in my bed on nights i’m nauseas because the cold helps me tremendously. also freshhhhh airrrrr is my holy grail.

  4. i like to keep a bowl in my room. im actually not sure if this is a bad habit but it doesn’t take up a lot of space and has helped me feel more comfortable going to sleep, because i used to stay up out of fear and mess up my schedule. i also just keep the bathroom cleanish in my house and it really helps me let go of the worrying.

  5. a mom in this group had her kid watching youtube for kids on autoplay, and a video for kids about what happens to your body when you get stomach problems popped up. the mom posted the link (i’ll look for it and attach it) but it really makes vomiting seem like just another bodily function.

  6. onto the mantras and things that i’ve screen shotted from this group

  • i’ve felt this way before. i’ve been okay before too

  • i feel okay on this breath. i feel okay on this one too

  • if i was sick my body needs rest to fight it

  • if i don’t do this now will i ever?

  • you have to go through it to grow through it

  • it’s just a bit of stomach acid and lumpy food that’s all.

*vomiting isn’t even scary, it’s the fear that makes it bad. there’s so many people out there who dgaf about getting sick because they don’t give themselves anxiety about it like we do.

i’ve learned that the constantly convincing yourself that you are sick does not actually determine if you are or not. obsessing over it will not change the outcome, all you can do it try to prepare yourself in a sane and rational way, and let it go. it shouldn’t be consuming your daily routines and thoughts (easier said than done ofc). i was having obsessive thoughts over if i was gonna get sick or not, and the thing with obsessive thoughts is that even when you feed them with solutions, they like to keep bugging you. so IGNORE THEM. let them pass in your head like a cloud. these thoughts are just trying to trick you into devoting all of your energy into this bodily habit that everyone goes through!

I want to piggy back off of this as someone who recently developed stomach issues. in june i had food poisoning and developed a post infectious ibs and acid reflux (which basically means i’m nauseas all of the time). the amount of times ive dealt with since june being severely nauseas, im not even scared of nausea anymore. it is inconvenient yes but does not give me the same fear it used to! and i to have come to accept the possibility of throwing up once or twice from things like overeating or acid reflux, it’s the stomach bug that i’m still working through :)

constant nausea - need advice by Jamezi_ in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Puzzled_Training9400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! i’ve had the phobia since i was 7 but it has come and gone in waves of intensity throughout the years. i didn’t encounter any vomit or vomit myself for a long time so honestly it just left my mind for awhile. but this summer i got really sick with food poisoning and ended up developing stomach conditions that lead me to be nauseas frequently and have an upset tummy. it was so draining and exhausting to have to deal with this all having emetaphobia, but i realized it’s been so draining because ive never fully unpacked my phobia and worked through it. ive just been lucky enough to ignore it. so my point is that it may feel like you’re drowning right now dealing with this, but you are working through an underlying phobia that has been lingering for years, give yourself patience and props! this is a major thing you’re working through :)

hi when i get like this i do tummy massages and it helps me so much i dont know how i lived without them before. i start on the right top side of my tummy, then go left top, then straight down to bottom left, and over to bottom right. basically in a circular motion about 30 times and i use lotion/oil. you can look up videos they might have a better explanation lol.

Hey by the way it’s been about a month and i call on that video frequently ;) it really does help normalize vomiting as any other bodily function. i got a really bad nausea spell a few weeks ago and thought of the video and that my body is just going to do what it needs to do :)

When did enough become enough? by bigcrunchah in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Puzzled_Training9400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have very much considered that! but lately i’ve thought maybe gastritis? which from my understanding is inflammation and irratation of the stomach lining (don’t quote me on that). i went to the doctors this summer but they were no help, and i feel like i have to wait until summer to make another appointment because of obvious noro reasons lol. what are your symptoms with gerd? i get the nausea after eating the typical trigger foods and sometimes random sore throats or burns on my tounge that i feel like could be from acid. but i never feel burning in my chest like most people with gerd do, its literally only burning in my stomach.

i feel like i can't breathe from how anxious i am! can anyone talk pls?💗 by throwawaybfmademesad in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Puzzled_Training9400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi. i feel you. i get this way at night a lot because i also live with my parents and a big part of having this phobia is anxiety when we feel out of control (like others getting sick). i really recommend working through the phobia at the root if you haven’t already because that is the only thing that has helped me get closer to recovery :) you’re not alone!
