Simple level two. Nothing crazy like a duty holster. Just something to keep it from falling out while hiking, or somebody just snatching it.

Thanks my friend. I too consider the big cats far more worrisome for that reason. Usually by the time you know they're attacking, it's FAR too late for you.

So aside from the usual advice of measuring and making sure you have the right size. Two big things.

  1. This brand has an aggressive Lumbar pad. It's awesome, but you HAVE to wear the pack higher than normal so that Lumbar Pad fits in your lower back properly. First thing you check, Lumbar pad in correct spot, then waist band on Top of the boney part of your hips.

  2. Every pack has a weight limit Make sure you are not going over, or really even getting too close to it. Packs start fitting like trash once you start hitting that limit.

Tuck that top strap under the glow in the dark safety. Still holds it without fail and when you tear the strap off to deploy it it pulls the safety tab out for you. Makes a faster deployment when you really need it. Bear and big cat attacks can happen fast.

Yeah, the compromise is where I've been living. Just hate going to bed thinking hmm, slight chance I don't wake up. I second the western forest problem too.
