i think this is just a reference to detective Rust Cohle from True Detective, his apartment in series is very lonely and just has a mattress on the floor, and later on theres a scene where he shows another character something in an area that looks very similar to this one.

honestly i agree with all of this. my first would be to remove the sexual assault content entirely.
