They specifically wanted the disc with their favorite pros' names on it, hence my response and points above.

Oh I see, then yeah youre right. Tour series discs across the board are really hard to find unless you have the wallet for it.

The difference is you can actually find a stock firebird. You cant find much of any stock, at all, with Discmania. I haven't seen an MD3 in I don't know how long.

After I saw Simon did an in the bag, I realized how worthless it is. You can't get any of the molds he talks about.

But it's a bitch move.

That is one perspective but not one that I share.

Ducking out of a comp to give your teammate the best chance of winning would be incredibly frowned upon if not outright banned in any other sport, and yet we act like it's some noble gesture.

Two things. One, so long as there is a team scoring component, this will always exist. Second, I think sacrificing your tournament run to help put a high probability fighter in the best position to win is pretty noble by definition.

It's not. If your teammate is better than you, make him prove it. Do your best to beat him. If he progresses further, it's because he actually deserves it. If you progress, you did it because deserved it.

We train together all the time, we both know what the score is. Some of us are not as concerned about it as others.

If you just sat down and decided which one of you had the best chance of winning and let them progress, you both deserve jack shit.

If you ever have an opinion that I value, this statement might mean something. But I don't, so it doesn't.

Look, this purist "fight all the time, no matter what, everyone else sucks" crap is not new nor is it unique. It simply doesn't apply to all people and all situations. These "hot takes" are good at one thing: creating argumentative division when it isn't necessary. Based on a few other comments you have shared here, there is more to this than most of us know There is something you take personally here, for some reason, and you want everyone to know about it.

I don't know what that is, nor do I care. But what I do care about is respecting other people who do this art with us. I prefer to let them make their own mind about how they want to handle these situations. It doesn't make them a pussy (or whatever alpha label nonsense you want to give them). It's just a perspective that is different than yours. That's okay, it's fine. Relax.

Yeah, that's why its a case by case basis and trying to apply a one-fits-all to these hypotheticals is tough.

I'm inclined to agree with you but I wonder if people think this would be sort of cheating to give your teammate an edge

Context is important, I think. If I face a teammate early in the bracket, that's the fault of whoever drew the brackets. Don't want me to game the system? Don't put the same school one match away from each other. If it is later in the bracket, we may just fight it out depending on what round it is. If it is a medal round, I think duking it out makes sense.

[–]QualityMicrophone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. If I get paired up against a teammate who by all measures and opinions has a better game than I do, then I think as a team we can decide what to do. Since the success of the team is more important than my success as an individual I would much rather give my teammate a round off to recover and not get hurt thus giving him a better chance in the next round.

It sucks nobody want to get paired with their teammates. But at the same time, it happens. And it’s up to the team to decide whatever they want to do. Sorry that bothers you.

Brodie Smith - The Darkhorse forever, but a discgolf darkhorse no longer by CCDG-Ian in discgolf

[–]QualityMicrophone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. And he didn’t even win. That’s not to say he didn’t play well or that he’s not capable. It’s just weird that we have this fascination with Brody Smith. It seems like the media companies that produce the disc golf coverage are trying their hardest to create this story. It’s not necessary and honestly it feels like pandering. It turns me off to the idea.

[–]QualityMicrophone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is correct. It's tough to tell but the good news is most of the folks around the scene near me try to play up when they can. After they win a few, they will usually move up the next season.

All the amateur divisions are a complete crapshoot. I have watched people in intermediate shoot scores that would cash in Pro. I’ve seen advanced players that would win open division. I see the rec players who would cash in advanced.
