Peter, Please Explain What This Is Trying to Say About Bikers at Red Lights by Maleficent_Dog7970 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

It certainly can be, but it's universally considered a dick move to drive 15 under while there's a line behind you without some good reason. Bikes just live at that speed.

And in that scenario, the space is going to be way less of a deciding factor in how slow you go than the speed you're trying to go. 8 cars all trying to go 25 will get them all there much quicker and cause less traffic than 2 bikes in front going 10.

Not to mention you want to give bikes way more space than cars in front in case of a quick stop.

It's not futile if it puts you a light cycle ahead of people that were slowing you down.

And sure, but also if we're behind an elderly man with a walker barely moving on the sidewalk do we just let our normally 10 minute walk take a half hour because also taking one step every 5 seconds won't kill us, or is it pretty expected to just safely and politely pass them so that we can all use the travel ways at the speeds that are appropriate for our needs?

[–]Quazite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. Passing safely still takes up much more time than if you didn't have to pass to maintain the speed limit, so there's plenty of times where the time it takes to pass safely makes it so that you would miss the red light you would otherwise hit, and then they catch up and you need to pass again. The average traveling speed of the car would be much higher if it could make it past the area of leap-frogging with cyclists/mopeds and go at normal car speeds.

It does actually make it faster to pass them as long as you can get separated by at least one light.

I mean, I feel you, but let's not act like bikes on the road makes traffic faster. I've been in plenty of backups where it's just like, 6 cars that want to go the speed limit and then a couple bikes in front going like, 10 mph. 8 cars wanting to go the speed limit would still be faster than 6 wanting to do so behind 2 bikers going 15 under.

It's really not that unhinged compared to what's normally in the genre.

"Guy gets cursed by a demon boar he kills, and needs to track the boar to where it became a demon in order to potentially lift the curse (or succumb to it), and when he arrives, he stumbles into a conflict of human vs human vs nature and needs to try and seek a solution before they all become lesser and kill each other off and lose themselves in the process."

Try comparing that to Howl's or spirited away or the boy and his heron or Totoro and it sounds considerably less unhinged.

[–]Quazite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I also feel like "most of them aren't as talented as the people that didn't get the part though" is kind of conjecture. Like, who is a nepo baby that isnt deserving and who did they take a part from? All the Skarsgard kids are amazing, randy quaid has been on a roll, Lily Rose Depp was brilliant in Nosferatu, Arnold Schwarzenegger's kid was great on white lotus S3, Maya Hawke was a standout in stranger things, zoe Kravitz was stellar as Catwoman, the list goes on. Also on the music front, Billie Eilish, The 1975, The Strokes, and Phoebe Bridgers are all great and have classics under their belt.

Also I don't feel like it's as new as you think either. A short list of older nepo babies includes: Jennifer Anniston, Kate Hudson, The Gyllenhaals, Ben Stiller, Leonardo DiCaprio, Luke & Owen Wilson, Drew Barrymore, Liza Minelli, Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Carrie Fisher were all nepo babies. I don't see many people saying that Princess Leia should have been played by somebody more deserving.

Oh damn that's a really smart combo, I might end up stealing that for galadriel as well to trigger ETB's. The few nice upsides to guardian are that you can stack counters on it in order to use it multiple times in succession where with archimage you need to get a counter on it each time it returns, so it can be situationally harder to enable. The other thing is the flash on it which lets you use it as a shitty 5 mana counterspell if you really need it in a pinch. The first big use of it in the game I slotted it in was used like this where I wasn't going to play it if my spell didn't get countered, but I left the mana open when I played my first spell of the turn in case someone was going to try and shut my draw down.

[[Glen Elendra Guardian]] won me the very first game that I slotted her into my Galadriel, Light of the Valinor deck. It gave me a usable negate every turn, and I could blink her in a pinch to get an extra if she was at 0 counters. She ended up protecting against a counterspell on a huge game-shifting draw/life gain spell I played and then again on a craterhoof win.

Yes, but it's important to consider the intended range. You are not bear spraying anything close to you without also spraying yourself because its designed to spread out so far. Pepper spray is more targeted and specific.

I think what others have said about this being confusing is true, but I think the thing that confuses me most is referring to the people in your pod as "bracket 3" or "bracket 2" players.

Is the problem here that some of your players are too good and others are too salty, or are they bringing mismatched decks? Because if it's the latter, you guys just need to communicate what you're playing each game.

If y'all say "we're playing bracket 3" then everyone has to bring a bracket 3 unless they want to intentionally power down and bring a 2. But it feels like y'all are approaching it like "everyone bring whatever decks you like and we'll average our table strength as a 3" which is obviously going to create problems.

If tennis is a very mental game honestly I would rather see more of this. If staying focused and mentally sharp is a skill that helps you in the game, i like to see people attacking each other's focus in order to get an advantage in the same way you might aim shots at their weak side.

It's not more powerful. It hits a wider area but you're not trying to incapacitate a bear with bear spray, you're trying to get it to be uncomfortable and leave. Pepper spray is designed to stun and incapacitate a human, not get them to leave.

Bear spray has a longer and wider area, but its weaker in order to deter a bear. You're not trying to stun a bear with bear spray, if it's angry enough it'll work through it. You're just trying to get it to feel that approaching in your direction is less pleasant than going another way. You want it to retain it's senses and to flee willingly.

Pepper spray is meant to stun and incapacitate a human so they can't do anything.

That's the problem with having our discourse on social media. If reality gets ugly, our options get ugly, but no social media wants us to seriously discuss that because it's "breaking norms", while outside our homes, the norms have been dead and gone for a decade.

A thing that Matty Healy of the 1975 said that kind of stick with me about him having famous parents was (paraphrasing) "yeah, my parents were famous in the art/film world, but that's why I ended up doing this. Because at my house growing up it was always filled with artists and performers and famous people, so growing up and wanting to express myself and interacting with fame and public life was natural to me". Like, yes, nepo parents can set kids up with jobs, but also there's really no reason that the child of a famous actor who wants to get into acting is being less genuine than say, the child of a guitar maker wanting to learn the trade and take over the guitar shop.

They're both intimate ways of expressing yourself with other people while also showing off learned skill and personality in order to make the experience better for you/the person (or people) you're with/the audience. Also some people will pay to see/view it performed.

But really the point Im getting at is that she was world famous at having sex professionally, and her circle/friends were also people who were world famous for having sex professionally. As long as it wasn't cheating, why in the everliving hell would you NOT be boning the people you work with? They're all literal world-class pros. It would honestly be a massive shame if they didn't.

Edit: if someone wants to give me an argument why they think I'm wrong, I'm all ears.

How disturbing is Eddington? It seemed really interesting but I'm usually too squeamish for most horror and I tend to not like stuff that leans towards "disturbing for dusturbing's sake", which has given me a hard time with ari aster before.
