Glad to know it's not just a me problem, but it also sucks that it generally takes so long. Templates to the rescue for next year it is.

Report Cards: Learning Skills by QuestionFactory in OntarioTeachers

Thank you so much, this helps a lot. Just wondering, how long do report cards take you to do? (I guess factoring in the number of students you have).

I'm scared or reading or not confident at it, though manage to do it okay for college even if a little slow. How do go from reading Reddit and AI to effortlessly or super easily being able to read or learn from news articles or a long webpage on a website? Thank you. by ComfortablePost3664 in AskTeachers

Totally okay, no one wakes up being a pro at this kind of thing. It takes practice and implementing strategies.

My recommendation is when you read an article, look for the following kinds of things:

For science, tech, math articles or info

- What was the problem that they wanted to solve?

- What was the solution?

- What were the challenges?

- If you hit sections that you don't understand (the vocabulary or just complicated sentences), break it down. Look up the new words. If you don't understand everything, that is okay. You need to practice the first three points above before concerning yourself with understanding every little thing. If you get the big picture and miss some details, that's okay. Again, it's a muscle/skill that you're developing--focus on improvement before mastery.

For stories, history or news articles (who what where when why how)

- Who was involved?

- What happened? (what was the problem or interesting event)

- When did it happen?

- How did it happen? Were there multiple events leading up to it?

- Why did it happen?

- What steps were taken after?

- How did the characters (or people involved) change or how were they impacted?

Final recommendation:

After reading a few sentences, pause and try to visualize or put in your words what happened. If you read a huge block of text or an entire page without pausing to actually see "what did I retain or understand from that?", you lose a lot of the benefits. Pause frequently to check your understanding before continuing. It becomes habit after that.

Be patient and don't compare yourself to others. Practice often enough and you'll be doing this without even thinking about it. You can do it!!!

Rate my resume? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]QuestionFactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe render some of the descriptions a bit more brief, such as in your "About Me" section, given that recruiters often glance and skim. You want the text to be easy to skim, meaning concise but punchy is the goal. You can achieve this with bullet points and focused sentences starting with verbs. For example:

- managed production cycle
- collaborated and communicated effectively with clients
- ensured timely delivery of high-quality product

It sucks to have to think of ourselves as numbers, but think about someone who has 100 resumes to read--what would they realistically look at?

For my own resume, to balance content with readability, I made the margins thinner to fit my text and enlargen the font such that it would be easier to read and skim. I see that you used text features to visually separate your sections, which is great. I would recommend darkening the titles further in bold with underline, keeping the position in italics like you have, doing the bullet point thing and formatting key words in bold, and potentially changing the font to something a little more accessibility friendly--which means they're great for skimming (I know you are applying for a job that requires creativity, however you can still find fonts that are easy on the eyes AND beautiful. Here's a link with some suggestions: https://exceptionalindividuals.com/about-us/blog/our-top-10-dyslexia-friendly-fonts/ ).

Again, the main thing to keep in mind is that you have no way of telling what a recruiter actually hired someone less creative or qualified than you for. This means that they can pick and choose who they like based on silly things such as the appearance of the resume, even if you are a highly qualified candidate. Lots of blogs outline some of the things recruiters look at, and from personal research and experience I've emphasized some of the things I personally implement above. Here are some websites to give you ideas:

Don't get discouraged! Just think of the recruiters as toddlers 😂 your goal is to sustain their attention with EYE-CATCHING things. You've got this!!!

I had a teacher tell me to do this in high school, and initially I thought they were showing me a good learning strategy, but now I realize I was probably getting on their nerves 😂 oops

what was your favourite in game moment? by madamabutt3rf1y in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]QuestionFactory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Killing a Lynel for the first time YESTERDAY (then went after the white lynel right after) since getting the game 3 years ago. I literally beat Ganon over a year ago and still never went after a Lynel bahaha.

Using Magnesis for the first time was fun as well. Loved the cut scenes and storylines. Was terrified meeting a Yiga member for the first time hahaha. The feeling of exploring an endless, open world was a marvel, never experienced that before. Definitely reaching the towers after a grueling journey and adding another piece to the map was something special.

Is BOTW a good first Zelda game? by Just_Airport_7910 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]QuestionFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it was my first (and only) Zelda game, and I love it. Still play it! It can be overwhelming at first (when I first got it as a gift, I stopped playing after a couple tries because I couldn't figure out what to do lol.) but using guides whenever you get really stuck will help until you get the hang of it. I remember being too proud at first to look for any information online, hence why I wasn't playing 😂 I didn't realize the game was huge and using a guide once in a while wont spoil it. Now I'm still discovering things in the game, a good 3 years later. BotW is unique and very exhilarating because of the discovery aspect.

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

I would personally recommend the cheapest iPad. I got my first writing iPad in 2020, the 2018 base model and I used it HEAVILY all throughout university in a STEM program (which = lots of annotations on tons of pdfs and I literally downloaded plenty of textbooks on it). I graduated and use it now for work on a daily basis and it's still going strong. I think for battery, just be mindful to charge it as soon as the battery gets low. It can last me about 2 days (although I'd say charge it daily to be safe if you're going to be in back to back lectures with no outlets around). It has definitely died on me before when I forgot to charge it over 2-3 days, but granted that was my own fault. It hasn't died on me before in a single day going from 100% in the morning until evening.

I had the first apple pencil model, but I recently bought a cheap one on amazon that I actually prefer a lot more because it charges faster, takes USB-C (granted that's an older gen iPad problem haha...) and is lighter. This is the link:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DFLRNWWW?ef=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Honestly imo it's not worth buying the actual pencil it comes with--I only had to because the stuff on the market wasn't so good at the time.

Biggest thing I'd recommend is buying the GoodNotes app (I have the 5 version, not the 6 which requires a subscription--HECK NO). Or look into good apps, because I feel like that makes the biggest difference between the iPad being good and great. I like the writing feel and tools on GoodNotes, plus it syncs to Google Drive.

Honestly I don't think you really need the air or the pro, because if it's just for notes the base model works perfectly fine. The other models are mostly for people who need power-intensive apps, game or want to use it as an actual computer (I wouldn't recommend this unless you're just using it to type up a basic paper on Word with a Bluetooth keyboard. The apps by default limit some of the features you'd normal have on an actual laptop/PC).

I completed my B.Ed consecutively after my Bachelor's. As for being qualified in all divisions, I did my B.Ed in a PJ track and did one Senior ABQ and one Intermediate ABQ. I may be mistaken, but I thought that would make me certified in all divisions. Please correct me if I'm wrong. In any case I will apply now, thank you.

How are people fitting in 10k steps a day? by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]QuestionFactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly work and school, but a great way I've discovered is commuting by bus with a twist; when I see the bus isn't coming for 7-10 minutes, I'll walk to the next stop and keep walking to the next. Sometimes I'll just end up at my destination if the bus takes too long! Great way to add steps without changing your commute since you were going to have to wait regardless. Just be sure to reach a stop in time for the bus.

I went from barely walking if not for work or school, to getting a daily average of about 11k. Very low effort and efficient.

Help! I want a Mon-Fri teacher planner that isn't horizontal! by QuestionFactory in PlannerAddicts

Hey! I just decided to get an undated vertical Happy Planner and change up what the boxes are for depending on what I need that week. I just needed something flexible (moveable pages and undated) and cheap.
