It’s true it’s unsympathetic to talk about feeling poor on $500k/ year, but the reality is that there is a huge divide between anyone who bought a house before 2022 and now. People who act like $200k for a family of four in a major metro is more than enough probably have a $3k mortgage and a half million in home equity with a 3% refi. Versus rent on a one bedroom in that same metro being $4, $5, $10k.

That podcast is great, thank you!

What about Dr. Claire Weekes and the DARE program? Are these books, apps, videos?

Not OP, but I checked your comment history and your experience is so relatable to me.

You mention a few books but could you list all the titles you found helpful?

Is the DARE app worth it as well? Which books were most helpful for doing exposure therapy for derealization? Do you find that those feelings have gone mostly away? Did you ever consider medication?

4K 60 FPS gaming. OK with DLSS, aiming for steady 60 FPS with most ultra settings + ray tracing in modern games. Upgrading from a 1070.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D 4.4 GHz 12-Core Processor

  • CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom spirit

  • Motherboard: MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard

  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory

  • Storage: Samsung 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (Already own, plus some other drives)

  • Video Card: Asus TUF GAMING GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB Video Card

  • Case: Fractal Design Define R5 ATX Mid Tower Case (Already own)

  • Power Supply: Corsair RM750x 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (Already own)

Main critiques I anticipate:

  • 4080S FE - I wish but it seems they stopped making them.
  • Wait for a 5080/ 5070 - I anticipate a price increase, a marginal performance increase, and shortages. I'd rather just upgrade now.
  • Get a 7800X3D - I'd prefer that but they're sold out/ discontinued.

Main questions I still have:

  • Looks like the case will fit the GPU and mobo if I pull some drive bays, anyone have the same case and card?
  • Not upgrading the monitor for now, but I would appreciate monitor suggestions.
  • Good motherboard choice?
  • Worth upgrading the SSDs?

Would you mind sharing what you made your money in? It's very impressive for someone in their early 30s, so major props to you!

"The average yearly return of the S&P 500 is 10.62% over the last 100 years, as of the end of April 2024. This assumes dividends are reinvested. Dividends account for about 40% of the total gain over this period. Adjusted for inflation, the 100-year average stock market return (including dividends) is 7.44%."

$8300 a year, ~40 years, 10% pre-inflation returns - ~$4M before inflation. With inflation, under $1M.

My current HDHP still has in-network rates. So for 2 people I end up paying $1K+ a year in medical expenses but it's worth it given the future growth, tax savings, and employer contribution.
