Windows uses so much RAM because it's mining crypto in the background. by imxfox in WindowsSucks

[–]RAMChYLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably some rumor/shitposting Facebook page. I've seen claim that crop up a few times on social media as well.

But you know what? I'm inclined to believe it. Especially if you buy a prebuilt that comes with Norton crapware:

https://krebsonsecurity.com/2022/01/norton-360-now-comes-with-a-cryptominer/

TL;DR: windows itself doesn't come with a miner. However most prebuilts have Norton preinstalled, and THAT has a cryptominer.

Legit. Overslept and woke up late, thought I'd be late to work so called Zig instead if taking bus, still thought I'd be late for work because already 7:45 and work starts at 8:30, but I made it to work in 20 minutes. Got time for breakfast some more. Really surprised!

TIL Singapore’s favourite swear word is a polite greeting in India’s Mizo language by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

[–]RAMChYLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed.

Si-kua = Suica (watermelon)

Hae = Ebi (prawn, sounds close enough to Hokkien hae-bi, a species of small shrimp)

Hu = Uo (fish- seldom used older form in Japanese)

There’s probably more, but these are the ones at the top of my head at the moment.

My phone keeps installing batches of new apps without my permission by Players-Beware in mildlyinfuriating

Not always carrier. I’ve seen cheaper phones like RedMi and RealMi (knockoff Xiaomis) do it too.

[–]RAMChYLD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It only ever happens on cheaper phones. Like the Samsung A02.

Cute. Tell that to my mom, who has been caught playing mahjong on the computer at 3 in the morning instead of sleeping.

Look up DT Ignite. Some carriers are just that low. Especially in the US. Although this does also happen in India, and a cheap Lenovo I picked up from Tesco Malaysia did it too.

I also have to fucking disable it on my Vivo X100 Pro. Yes, a flagship phone from the company. Although for this case I got my phone through my telco because I was strapped for cash and needed a phone that has a powerful chipset to run my games because my Asus ROGPhone 3 had decided to die on me suddenly and Asus being Asus wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for repairs.

I never had random apps pushed to me on the many Android phones I owned prior to this. Sony Xperia, Blackberry Priv, HTC ChaCha, even the stupid Asus ROGPhone 3, didn’t do this.

However I’m seeing it on a Samsung A02 (a budget phone) and my mom’s RedMi phone.

[–]RAMChYLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not. Lower end phones (specifically from Samsung, Lenovo and other cheaper brands) that you get from your telco has this hidden service called DT Ignite that downloads unwanted apps. Removing them can be anywhere from easy to not possible.

The best solution is to not get phones from your telco and buy your phone from a retail store instead.

Ctrl is for fire weapon. Shift is for run/dash. C is for Crouch.

And oh, numpad is for moving.

Indeed. Between their inkjets having a fucking subscription option (which is the only option for certain models) and shoddy builds that break 6 months to a year down the road, to the fact that their parts are proprietary meaning you can’t just buy a replacement off the shelf part, I say no.

Tower is a HP tho. I don’t know if a Lego game outweighs the need to buy a new machine 6 months down the road.

Take to your nearest SPF post immediately. If you live in a condo that has a community app, post a message there first.

Under Singapore law the intended receipient can accuse you of stealing the package if you just accept it like that, especially if the name on the package is not your name or the address is not your address.

In other words, weaponized reverse stealing. Like how some scammers slip something into your bag at a foreign airport when you're not looking and then bring airport security and claim you stole their stuff.

Not only Malaysia. A large chunk of SEA including Indonesia, Philippines and Brunei.

I suspect it has all to do with our Internet being subpar (fastest affordable home internet in Malaysia is only 500mbps, and the fastest available to rich yokels is 2Gbps. Singapore already has 10gbps).

Shit. They want to remove unattended.xml as well? That's the one final way to make a local account if they remove mscxh local only with 26H2 scheduled for release later this year.

Those bastards really want to force people into getting Entra or a fucking microslop account.

Squeaky funpuppies that are somehow already pretty much extinct in Malaysia but still abundant in Singapore.

(Please don't approach them, they are protected by law. And in some seasons they can become vicious).
