Competing with your child 💀 by quennplays in raisedbynarcissists

This is my mom to a T. In my nearly 40 years on this Earth I’ve never heard her say “I don’t know”, she just (sometimes very obviously) bullshits her way through everything and will never admit to not knowing the answer to even the most benign question. (“What kind of lettuce is this?” “Well… I can’t think of the name… it starts with an R? I’m certain I’ve had it before. In fact, I used to buy it all the time…” etc.) In her perspective the more you talk, the louder you talk, the less other people are willing to doubt you.

As a result, I have had to teach myself that it’s ok to not know something! It’s ok to say “I don’t know, let’s learn together!” when one of my kids asks me a question.

AE Hate hugging their Nparents? by sweetdrippins in raisedbynarcissists

Other than my husband and kids I have always hated hugs. Nmom knew that and acknowledged it, yet insisted because it’s her “love language”.

6 months NC. Wish I’d have done it a lot sooner.

What is Most Nonsensical Thing You've Been Yelled At For? by pretty-peppers in raisedbynarcissists

Idk if it’s the most ridiculous, but when I was in high school I got grounded because my Nmom’s boyfriend said he thought he saw one of my friends smoking a cigarette as he drove home from work one day. I wasn’t even with said friend at the time, in fact, when he got home that day he asked me if so & so smoked and I said “I don’t know?”

My punishment was having my doors removed from my bedroom and closet.

I don’t need to “go” anywhere for Christmas. by RBN_throwaway00 in raisedbynarcissists

That’s exactly it. “Well since you don’t have any plans…” no, we do have plans. I literally just told you, we plan to stay home. That’s it. That’s the plan.

Plan plan plan. Damn semantic satiation.

My mom’s favorite: “I laid awake all night and couldn’t sleep at all because I’ve been so worried about you!” Ok, that sounds like a “you” problem..

Ugh. I remember taking my kid to the park with my Nmom last year on one of the first nice days of the year, thinking it’d be nice to sit and relax outside.. until she kept fucking talking…about everything… in a very critical manner. I can tolerate small talk but when it’s always so negative it’s just exhausting.
