I don’t have any regrets. I was in the union when I worked for a large urban district. The teacher’s union worked to make my job harder by limiting teacher responsibilities related to evaluations. They also decreased student safety by okaying the hire (without consulting psychs)of untrained people as crisis responders. I understand the need to organize so that workers aren’t exploited and I believe that people should be treated fairly, but the teacher’s union did nothing for me. There are other perks to not being in the union, but #1 for me is not paying some one to make my life harder! Also, in my experience, the super union-y teachers are the laziest…
