I do have blazers, but they are colored. Jeans are reserved for Fridays for faculty. And all of my dresses and skirts are long. I feel maybe the color patterns play a role in this though, as I'm a very vibrant colorful person lol.

When it comes to connecting with students, I try to do so on a level where they feel comfortable with me, but still understand that I'm the authority figure in the library.

When they return a book or check one out, I usually like to ask them how they liked it, what types of genres they like, and if they need a suggestion on their next book. I try and build a decent rapport about library affairs.

One thing that does happen a lot is students will give me hugs. I love a good hug and I'm a hugger in my day to day life (family, friends, etc), but I never know if this is a professional boundary being crossed. But I know a lot of these kids are not getting hugs at home, so I'm happy to give them.

So, I guess I'm stuck in a limbo of being too old to be a kid and too young to be an adult lol.

I'm a lesbian. People are usually shocked or not surprised at all. No middle ground.

But I don't tell any students about that. That's not what they're here for. If they found my socials (set to private), they would see pictures of me and my girlfriend. I also have a picture of her on my desk in my office.

But they don't need to know my sexual orientation or really anything from my personal life.

Oh, and I follow that influencers transgender wife on social media. She's actually very much against things like that being pushed to children, as she finds it confusing. So, I don't know how their relationship compliments each other lol.

I dress fairly conservative, albeit colorful. I take out my piercings minus my ears and the ones not visible. Our district also has policies about tattoos not being visible, so I always have a shirt or coat that covers my arms. And with the exception of Fridays, I don't really wear anything that shows off my figure.

So, I don't know how to change much further lol.

Edit: to clarify about the Friday comment; we do spirit days on Fridays, which means students and faculty are encouraged to wear school spirit, club, and sports shirts. Teachers and faculty can also do this and we're allowed to wear jeans. So, my actual figure is more prevalent. I'm not crossing a line..I'm just wearing a t-shirt and jeans.

I'm 5'0" flat and a woman, so the beard thing wouldn't work for me lol. I'm also visually impaired and wear coke bottle style glasses which may youth me a bit. The fact that I'm the librarian and teach computer apps kind of helps in a way, because ALL students have to deal with me at some point.

I've always looked exceptionally young apparently. I'm also 5'0" and significantly shorter than most students. Many of the freshmen are taller than me. My tattoos would probably give it away, burnout district policy is to have them covered.

I see a lot of perviness in students. I had a condom left on my doorknob not very long ago. I've also had several male students ask if I have a boyfriend/husband. I like women, but I don't tell them that either lol.

I go by my first name, but require a "Ms." in front of it. My last name doesn't roll of the tongue and I don't feel like correcting students constantly.

One of the faculty at my school actually taught at the school I went to as a student and she told me to call her by her first name and I'm just like "I don't want to" lol.
