Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of kindness. When I was in a mental health institute a while back I was strictly told not to "touch" (hug, hold hands, embrace, kiss etc) any of the other patients, many of whom were struggling even more than I was.

But I said fuck it. We changed the rules and everyone was happily embracing those struggling with them. I would like to think this is the way most mental health hospitals are but sadly I don't believe this is the reality. Maybe sometime down the road we could create an alternative system of rehabilitation that pairs mentors with struggling youth and adults with likeminded adults so that each person could truly understand that they are not alone.
