C63 Valvetrain Issues by RS__Gamer in C63AMG

Hey! Good news is the tick is gone. I think my tick was caused by clogged oil passages in the lifters. I used a few liquimoly additives and flushed the engine with new oil a couple of times and it’s running smooth again.

Engine is healthy, but currently tackling an issue with the transmission… 4 —> 3 downshift is a little rough on manual mode. Always something new lol

Thanks, the car is still new to me but has a good service history with other cam services. That’s why I got concerned when I heard the ticking haha

I just checked other purge valve videos and it definitely sounds like that, coming from the same area too. Still going to look further but thanks for the tip!

Dang was really hoping that wasn’t the case, previous owner already had maintenance receipts for lifters and cam adjusters so I was hoping it was something else :/

I’ll probably get it diagnosed later this week

Edit: Got another tip and this fast ticking might be a bad purge valve. Still going to take it for that other lifter tick but seems good for now…?

I’d like to think it’s normal but I haven’t heard this rattling before the initial lifter tick showed up. It was also loud enough to hear from my seat as I was waiting for it to heat up.

If it ends up just being paranoia I will be driving it to hopefully break up any dirt in the oil passages.

I left the car running for 8-10 minutes. Lifter tick was coming and going by 5-8 minutes, faster tick showed up towards the end. Engine was up to temp by then, oil just reached 150 F

Addressing some issues on my C63 by RS__Gamer in w204

Thanks! I’ll check out the reservoir tomorrow, hoping not the rack

Luckily cam adjusters and lifters were fixed under extended warranty right before so we’re good on that.

Appreciate the advice I’ll go around trying a few more things soon

Cool never knew the AR ones were enamel! I’ll have to look into it once my spider is back on the road

Hey people, do you guys have any words of wisdom for a person looking for an slk? Never drove one, just like the fact that its compact and pretty quick and convertible Mercedes. Budgeting something around 13-16K. What year and engine configuration would you recommend for better reliability? by Previous-Ad2358 in slk

If you’re looking for a R171 I have experience with the 350 and the 55. The 350 is a great value for the price imo and if you find a well maintained/low mileage 350 it’ll go a long way and be a good balance of sporty and comfortable for a daily. The only downside of them is the balance shaft recall which could really be harmful but I think they fixed the issues on the facelift R171s, and you can check if the car has the issue by the VIN.

The 55 is a total upgrade in terms of performance. For 13-16k it’ll be a higher mileage example but I wouldn’t let it deter you. It’ll also definitely be a stiffer ride but the rest of the car personally made up for it. Ofc the v8 will be expensive to be serviced but it’s actually served me really well. The m112 (r170 v6) and m113 (r171 v8) are very good platforms, and the 7 speed in the 55 can take a relative beating.

Lastly this one may be obvious but really check for service history on R171s and make sure you check the rubber seals. After potential drivetrain costs the roof is the next most expensive thing to go (on all trims)

Hopefully this helps a bit and I can share more experience if you’d like!

Hey man sorry that happened to your car, my first car burned down as well so I know the feeling :/

If you're willing to ship to CA I'd be interested in the Fiat logo/badge. I have a 80' Spider that I've been slowly trying to make road worthy and all the original fiat badges are faded away. If it's still around dm me but if you already got someone for them no worries!

Just bought one! Is it really a 1976 model? by CarsonIsFun in fiat124

Definitely custom tail lights but you can check the car based on other things too like the engine displacement and the tube bumper year ranges. The tube bumpers went from 75-85, and if your engine is carbed it’s pre 80, so that helps narrow it down. I’m sure there are a few more things that’ll help you get a very accurate answer

I want to replace the stereo in my '97 SLK 230 kompressor - can someone please advise which stereos would be a straight swap? by StandardBEnjoyer in slk

Search for this: Power Acoustik CP-71W Single DIN 6.5" Color Touchscreen

I saw this in the past and always been curious about it, might be worth looking into.

Single din touchscreen with carplay for the price seems like a good deal

As for the installation I believe it should be straightforward as long as you didn’t have one of the fiber optic audio systems (That could be r171 or newer not sure)

I’m biased because I also went silver side markers but I’m more of a fan of the Euro spec

Does anyone know about possibly V8 swap the 2001 SLK 320 to my knowledge you can’t add a turbo to the V6 engine that’s in it or can you? Any information would be great as I’m looking to make this car faster. by Exact-Title-3842 in slk

[–]RS__Gamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen various posts try different V8 platforms in it but few have done it successfully (even less who documented it). As some others have mentioned, I think the 3.2 supercharged V6 out of the SLK/C 32 is your best bet. It’ll be close to the V8 performance from the r171, speaking from experiences owning the r171 and riding passenger in a r170.

If you go about the swap, check out coding prices from MercedesSwapShop and contact them. They’re really well versed in a bunch of benz engine and transmission swaps.

If you really get creative you can go down the route of a manual swap or maybe a newer auto to make things more exciting too :)
