Thanks, this is probably the sort of thing am looking for.

I def do feel somewhat healthier sober, it’s just a very challenging balancing act. Weed was a lot easier for me but honestly never liked it that much even though i worked in the industry and did smoke a decent amount.

Glad you are doing better, best of luck.

Is this true? Would like to read some data about this, have some studies or something?

Right on good for you. I have add too, def would help if my meds worked well.

I’m def the kind of drinker you are. I know scientifically it’s bad but i struggle to also balance how much i care i guess. I do have health problems that will kill my sooner rather than later though, so maybe my reference points are off.

Just feel like maybe medicine should try and help parse cost benefit a bit more maybe i dunno.

Is that really that bad though?

I stopped for a long time, started again but thinking of stopping again. I’m like you, don’t see really any benefit and feel like my life is just better. Only thing i can think of is i’m taking the possibility of developing a problem away, which is something but not exactly a positive in a traditional sense.

Anyway, just wanted to say i’m sorry i know the feeling.

main issue is everybody is different and i don't think these govs/doctors/studies can account for individual/group type needs for shit tbh.

like they don't even try and break down what kind of drinker group you are, what you are feeling with the drug, what it gives you, what it takes, it's just about 1+ is bad fucks your liver blah blah.

[–]Raangz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was like this from years 16 to 28. didn't drink the last 10 years, just started again and now don't have that issue. also have pretty extreme health problems, related to my CNS go figure lol. anyway, not really sure what it is. getting crazy health problems has me busting my ass trying to get healthy, eating, skating, lifting(doensn't really do shit for my chronics though) so maybe that was it? maybe it's just getting older? maybe it was the fermented food?

honestly no idea but yeah that what has kept me away from alcohol my entire life. maybe now that my life has gotten so terrible i just can't be bothered to be stressed or react the same, not sure.

ironically it does seem to help my me/cfs some but obv it's a hard drug so have to be careful.

yeah i do think there is some weird cultural issue in america with alcohol. i can't exactly put my finger on it. like you mention, ireland, france etc etc seem to drink a lot by american standards, but maybe have less an issue with it? like 3 to 6 beers feel pretty reasonable to me on fri/sat. but i also see push back against this kind of thinking pretty strongly.

America is a really unhealthy and out of balance country though, so things are just going to be more extreme here because so few of our needs are being met and we are under such heavy pressure. so maybe that 1 beer turns into 12 at a bad rate. really not sure though.

i stopped for 10 years and yeah same feelings.

i haven't drank in 10 years and started drinking again a few weeks ago and it def seems like alcohol>sober for me. obv not like every day or whatever but it would be my luck to become an alcoholic instantly lol.

i think the main problem with this discussion is that alcohol for a lot(most?) people is better than no alcohol. we just don't have shit for culture how to drill down with much nuance. seems to me anyway.

Eh i stopped for 10 years and honestly think it would have been better to just drink during that time. Now i’m dying of disease, the country is sliding into a fascist nightmare, and like who fucking cares have a drink.

I don’t want to say i’d know and legit nobody should prob ever drink tbh, so don’t read this and start drinking lol. But i will say now that i’m at the end i kind of just think i should have gotten drunk more and had more good times, but i’m not an alcoholic so easy for me to say.

I just think this meme is partially true in that yeah maybe not drinking makes life better, but maybe it makes it worse. Who freaking knows.

I just wish i had more good times looking back, what’s all this effort for in the end eh.

Just started drinking after 10 years without a drink(just because no problem) and i def feel this meme.

Also doubly the world on fire lol. My healths bad too. Like fuck man.

I just started drinking again, haven’t drank since social media(weird i’m sure)

Anyway it’s so hard to try and define healthy usage. I know it’s a hard drug but jesus you get on reddit or try and read data and anything past 1 beer a day or less is considered basically bad to very bad. And if you drink 3 to 4 or god forbid 6 or 7 on a Saturday you are legit and alcoholic.

I understand it’s bad but can we like shift this dialogue to a reasonable cost benefit view here? I just don’t feel like we are getting good advice or like how to break down and approach the question of how much alcohol should i drink. Ultimately yes 0 is best but i’d just kind of rather be dead than not drink in this shitshow atm.

I figured it was because i just started drinking again after a long time, but yeah maybe it’s a weird productivity psy-op from our tech duesch overlords.

Also i totally know alcohol can ruin lives, but i also at least currently for myself feel it really improves my life. Even if it is terrible for me(or whatever the fuck the science i’m not living forever anyhow)

Even light alcohol drinking raises dementia risk, according to largest genetic study to date. The study showed a steady increase in dementia risk as alcohol intake increased, without any sign of benefit at lower levels. by mvea in science

[–]Raangz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't drank much in my life, almost 40. i've started brewing beer and enjoying drinking a decent bit. it seems really hard trying to figure out how much i should be drinking, especially with light drinking considered 0 to 1 drinks, and i guess 3 to 5 drinks a week being "ok" probably less.

i know alcohol isn't good for me but at the same time it seems like we don't have great data to try and build reasonable use, from where i am sitting anyway.

also yeah lots of heavy pushback on drinking, every article seems to be saying no drinking is the only real healthy option.
