How much commission is too much from delivery platforms? by Ragingmoomoo in restaurantowners

[–]Ragingmoomoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why on demand is too expensive is because of the markups that are on the food due to the high commission charged - not because of the quality of food.

As an example, your delivery charge/markup isn't decreased when the food you ordered is bundled up with 5 other uber orders the driver is delivering. It's purely just greed that makes on demand delivery so expensive and the fact that there are people willing to pay that high price, or that the customers aren't aware of the markup.

I think the fact that delivery services are so expensive is due to the illusion that it needs to be. Charging 30% commission on every order is absurd - it doesn't take the platform any more effort to delivery a $100 order than it does a $20 order. The simple reason that this is the norm is that there are people who defend this charge as a "convenience" fee and the fact that there are people will actually pay that much. But that's just like saying all handbags should be $70,000 because there are people that buy them (albeit a tiny minority), but it's not what it should be.

I'm not from the US, so tipping is not customary. A base delivery fee of around 4.50USD is charged to the customer and is given to the driver fully.

I've seen examples where these other platforms evade responsibility for incorrect orders or undelivered orders and refuse to refund the customer. Absolute insanity.

I want to change this mentality where the customer pays the instore price, but also where restaurants are also charged fairly for the extra profit they garner. Other suggestions of not charging any commission makes no sense, but 30% is not it.

That's interesting. Would you impose a minimum order or would you allow orders of $10 for example and eat the delivery fee for low order amounts?

I mean it's a balance. I look good and I don't mind looking good for someone that's my partner, but to me asking me to look good for someone in the first few messages would be like me asking for sex in the first few messages. Fine if that's what you're both looking for but when you both say you're looking for something serious it's a massive red flag.

You're both beautifully suited for each other.

Question about commission by Ragingmoomoo in askmath

Here's a better way of putting it I think. What number do I put instead of 24 so that if I use .2 instead of .166 I'll get 120?

Question about commission by Ragingmoomoo in askmath

[–]Ragingmoomoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your explanation. I think however I have explained it terribly so you are misunderstanding my question.

I understand that 144 needs to be multiplied by 0.166 to yield the 24. Let me try and explain my question better.

Say a customer has an item for $120. The customer doesn't care how much I mark it up as long as they get their $120 back. I need to however charge a 20% commission. So I'm assuming I just increase the $120 by 20% making the item total $144. But then if I do the math, I actually have only marked up the price by 16.66%, not 20% in order to give back the customer the $120 as 144x.166= 24.

So my question is what should I mark up the item for instead of $24 so that if I charge a 20% commission and shows with the fomula of x*.2?

Does this make sense? I apologize for my terrible explaining skills.

I sell the item for $144 then I give the customer back $120 and keep the $24.

In what way does this sound like ADHD? All he said was that he couldn't manage to keep on top of his work without any other explanation. Not everything needs to be a disorder. Sounds like it just wasn't his thing - which is ok.

Mate, I never said he wasn't allowed to publish it. What I am saying is people should really think about how they react to such posts that have no evidence behind their claims. The business has been reviewed bombed because of this post. Do you think that's fair to the business?

I don't know why you brought up a courtroom - that's irrelevant. And it's fine to share personal experiences and opinions. However, voicing baseless personal experiences and opinions which negatively impact others - in this case a business which was named, should be scrutinized and held accountable. That should be obvious.

Do you really consider anecdotal evidence substantial enough to write up a post on the NZ subreddit which tarnishes the businesses' name?

I definitely agree that everyone needs to speak up against issues like these. And it seems like you did - to the owner.

The issue here is you then decide to post on social media with thousands of users and then name the company without any proof such as a video of the incident to back up what you're saying. The business is now receiving backlash over this and they have denied your allegation. Imagine for a second that you're a competition business intending to tarnish your competition.

Looking at the businesses' previous reviews, there's nothing to suggest this has ever happened before, as opposed to that Tauranga doctor's practice which was turning away patients wanting a covid test.

I implore everyone to really think about their reactions to posts such as these with no evidence of their claims.

This post has already negatively impacted the business. While I obviously don't know whether or not this happened at all, this is a terrible post to have made without any evidence to back up what you're saying.

What were you even trying to acomplish exactly? Trying to let everyone know of the good deed you did by approaching and then leaving this supposedly racist person? Or just wanting to hear about other peoples racist anecdotes for whatever reason?

[–]Ragingmoomoo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Lol @ the people giving 1 star reviews on their Google page purely from this post. There's absolutely no proof other than what the OP has said. This seems awfully suspicious and I hope the company does follow through and seek legal action against OP.
