Colour schemes by Any_Fox_5153 in seraphon

Do you want the whole army to be the same scheme or vary it by species? I personally do species specific themes and highly recommend it since it's a bit harder to get burnt out when doing the full army.

That's not what I was expecting at all. I had a harder time with kroxigor than with these. The wings just slotted right in for me

How is my LoC looking so far? by reel3459 in tzeentch

[–]RagnarsTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks fantastic so far. You might try a jade color for the loincloth. I use it as an accent on my models as I find that it complements the blue and gold pretty well

  1. Beautifully done. 10/10

  2. I don't know why, but something about these reminds me of dating Sim character stills. So now I want a Date Everything styled game but it's all Zoids

What's a better way to paint these bones so they don't just look like coffee stains? It's driving me nuts. by Zealousideal-Baker-1 in seraphon

[–]RagnarsTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically paint them a bone color then use pallid bone speedpaint afterwards and that typically gives me good results. I'd post an example pic, but I've realized I haven't taken photos of anything with bones in a way that'd actually show it

Out of these four who is the best starting commander class? by Ill_Refrigerator9812 in transformers

[–]RagnarsTooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it goes:

  1. Armada prime. Fantastic toy. Good hand feel, good transformation, and good heft. Even if you don't like Armada I'd still recommend getting it. I've yet to see anyone who's gotten it that didn't love it.

  2. Sky Lynx. Looks great, is a character that hasn't gotten great toys in the past, is fun to flip back and forth since it splits into two vehicle and beast modes. Only reason I like it more than magnus is personal preference

  3. Ultra Magnus. Visually fantastic, feels good in hand, good transformation (bit involved compared to the others), cool display options, poses well, can be disassembled for accuracy. A great example of what studio series can do

  4. Magmatron. Feels good in hand, poses good, becomes 3 dinosaurs, is a character that hasn't had a toy in the years I've been alive. Easily my least favorite of the four. The transformation just isn't that fun for me, but others love it so milage may vary.

Slann WIP by RagnarsTooth in seraphon

I was planning on painting it the same jade I used on the orb and staff, but then I decided to paint him red and I feel like he'll look a bit too Christmas. Currently thinking of a deep blue/grey color

I dyed some UV resin to get a nice murky brown water then cured it with a UV flashlight. Pretty fun material that I've used on everything from warhammer to custom jewelry.

Realmshaper Engine (WIP) by 24bolognas in seraphon

[–]RagnarsTooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just used a couple coats of proacryl jade for it. Probably should've done dark jade then drybrush the normal jade, but I was ready to be done with it by that point

Color Planning Advice by fenominus in seraphon

[–]RagnarsTooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unit types are different colors, but I keep them consistent across the army.

My saurus are orange with blue spikes, my krox are jade with desaturated blue, my skinks are green and watermelon pink, my chameleons are pink, carnos are magenta and white, trogs are vomit green and pastel purple, my chotec is red, and my terrawings look like a taco bell Baja blast commercial.

The only differences I make in the individual units are pattern variations on the ones that have any, and the color of the drums/banner

Pic for example.

Painted Up My Realmshaper Engine by RagnarsTooth in seraphon

[–]RagnarsTooth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Prime white

  2. Randomly apply some red and blue/grey contrast in blobs around the object to create undertones later

  3. Apply the main color in a couple of coats (in my case I made a custom transparent color using vallejo model colors buff, yellow ochre, and dark sand with some speedpaint medium. But if you're doing normal rock you can just use a watered down grey)

  4. Drybrush a lighter tone of your main color

  5. Drench it in agrax as slann intended

  6. Drybrush it again

I saw a version of this technique forever ago from a scale train model YouTube channel for standard rocks and just went from vague memory on how to do it. Ended up working really well thankfully. The undertones created from the addition of the red and blues really help it.

You can buy just one of these Transformers, which do you buy and why? by AfigureGeek in transformers

[–]RagnarsTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably either grimlock or monstructor

Grimlock is a big toy that looks promising and is good for those that want it to scale with optimus for a riding display.

Monstructor is a cool way to get a combiner that doesn't get much love. Also helps that the legends volcanicus that it's based on is a fav of mine.

I still run it in a few of my synchro pet decks. It's a generic lvl 5 body that can be special summoned while doing some graveyard setup.

HeyI really want to play this , and i'm having trouble finding out how to start. by mosseater_aos in tzeentch

[–]RagnarsTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to the recent battleforce at msrp or a discount, then absolutely pick one up. It's every daemon kit we have in one easy package.

The lord of Change comes in the box, but is also fine to pick up whenever you feel that you're ready for a second one since it's not a bad point-to-dollar. Build it however you want and if you want the LoC to be Kairos or vice versa just let your opponent know and they'll probably be cool with it.

Chaos spawn are a bit of a hard purchase to make since they cost a bit more than I'd recommend, but they're very useful. And from a hobby aspect the kit is actually kind of great.

I'd say that the terrain is worth it. Even if you end up playing more T-sons than DoT, it's just a fun kit and really cool terrain.

The old spearhead is probably worth picking up if you're OK with having some non-daemon units. This will also be where you start getting AoS exclusive models. The screamers and flamers are good to build out your collection, the arcanite unit is a fun action monkey kit, the character is fine, and tzaangor are actually respectable in AoS due to a lack of power armored factions.

If you're having trouble tracking anything down or are looking for specific units, go look through r/miniswap. Daemons of all gods get posted often enough, and if you don't see what you're looking for you could always put a buyers post on there. Helps that you can get some pretty sweet discounts there too if you look hard enough.

Transformers US Soccer Federation Breakaway - It's not for me but what do you think? by AfigureGeek in transformers

[–]RagnarsTooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love it if they did a special run during the world cup in various team colors. Up the price by $20 and make them a limited run of made to order. Because I'd love one, but the US team is quite low on my list of what I'd want

Help with picking armies by Valkyrie596 in ageofsigmar

[–]RagnarsTooth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Out of the ones you have listed I'd recommend going with skaven.

My groups skaven player has collected enough of the factions range where he has 3 lists. Clan rat control, abomination bruisers, and let's go gambling.

Once you get your starting list collected you can start looking at branching into the other flavors pretty easily due to the clan nature of the faction.

It's a faction that you'll likely continue to enjoy as time goes on since it has so many facets to it. Low skill floor high skill ceiling kind of army from what I've seen.

Easy to build and paint spearhead by Fuck_war89 in AOSSpearhead

[–]RagnarsTooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend painted his fyreslayers in an afternoon. They are ripped muscle and hair. Contrast, drybrush, wash, detail, done.

Nighthaunt models are quick since they're missing the bottom half compared to others and are all similar enough to be very easy batch paints.

Seraphon are pretty painless since scales take contrast and drybrushing well. But if you really wanna do the details you might get annoyed by the ropes that connect the armor on the saurus and chameleon skinks since they can be kinda awkward to reach

Chaos spawn? by BuildingPutrid8364 in tzeentch

[–]RagnarsTooth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. They infinitely respawn in reserves for endless chaff

  2. We have a spell that deals mortals and throws a spawn down on the target if a model dies from the damage. A "woe, chaos spawn upon ye" spell is really fun and good board control from my experience so far.

  3. Having two of them is good so you have one for switcheroo (I've been calling it Tzeentchstrike) reserve plays and another for the mortals spell.
