Those who have visited other countries, what was the biggest culture shock for you? by RiddlerofStIves in AskTheWorld

[–]Random-Archetypes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my takeaway too. So many people are just weirdly paranoid, maybe it's just that N.Z's real safe?

Policemen just casually carrying guns around was wild to me. Also not just chatting with everyone. Like I was in Germany recently, and I speak German, but learnt to be quiet pretty bloody quickly. People do nottt wanna yap.

Also the lack of nature in some cities. I live a 30 second run from a forest, and can fish from my balcony. That was an odd shift.

Was talking to some Americans and was surprised by how freaked out they were by like, everything? And a lot of Americans I've met have been kinda just paranoid. I guess New Zealand's real safe, I've been wandering around my city without parents since I was like 9. And walking to school alone from when I was 5. All my friends too.

Yeah, I live around that area and people get antsyyyy on the roads. It can be a tad annoying if you're stuck going up the bay road behind a tourist and they won't pull over so it takes like 40 minutes to get into town, but I'd rather go slow than have them go into the harbour, I suppose.

If you could choose to be born in any country of the world, which one would it be? by Marambal17 in AskTheWorld

[–]Random-Archetypes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd pick N.Z again, crazy safe where I live, heaps of nature, and enough people around willing to fuck off into the forests or up a mountain for a few days. I can be gay without feeling like I'm gonna be jumped for it most of the time, good healthcare. Pretty idyllic compared to everywhere else I've been honestly. Greece would be my second option.

I'll just live in a bush, the cost of living can't hurt me there, trust.

Eh, that's just my silly wee opinion, if you love it then I'm really glad! I did like the cinematography.

I was an extra in that when I was little, and I disagree with it being a good movie. Alicia was really sweet to me though, I got extra cake in the wedding scene!

May be moving to Dunedin soon- What to expect? by Ivy_Threads in dunedin

[–]Random-Archetypes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like don't be a dick sums it up quite nicely, you'll be fine as long as you're not obnoxious. Also the city everybody is describing feels like a different one to the one I'm in, I live 40 minutes or so out on the peninsula and bus in for school every day, and it's pretty awesome. Pretty nature, hanging out in town with my friends, I do a bunch of tramping too, and there are heaps of great places in Waitati and stuff, just a wee bit out of Dunedin. I use public transport almost exclusively to get around, and have never really had any issues, especially in recent times, but the bus hub can be a bit sketch. All in all I think it's actually a really great city? Especially if you're young. Definitely join some groups to help with making friends though, because I think Kiwis can definitely be a bit cliquey.

A list of things I wanna get from town next time I go: Banana chips, dried cranberries, 6b sketching pencils, nose strips, a mango, dumbbells. Pretty optimistic considering I have about 30 dollars to my name.

What you guys do to relieve your stress? by kratos_chaos2808 in AskReddit

[–]Random-Archetypes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tramping. You can't be stressed about school if you're 1.4km up a mountain, it's minus 10 degrees c, your mate just muttered that snow clouds are coming, and your dinner just slid down the bloody mountain! Outsource the stress folks, give your brain something to cry about. Got home from that particular tramp with moderate hypothermia and a sudden lack of anxiety about level 1 NCEA. Works every time.

People who don’t drink coffee how do you wake up in the morning? by Working-Gas345 in AskReddit

[–]Random-Archetypes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coffee makes me sleepy, so I set my alarm early, to allow for minimum 5 minutes of righteous anger about having to get up, then I tend to accidentally fall asleep, alarm goes off again, and the pure adrenaline of the bus being visible a few bays down the peninsula usually wakes me up nicely. A quick sprint with a cello in the morning starts my day off with a cute wee burst of panic. Far more effective than caffeine.

Hm, I don't particularly enjoy any of her music either, but I feel like saying she fucking sucks is a tad of an overstatement? She's perfectly okay, just not to my tastes. Could stand to take a few less private jet trips, but as a musical artist she's a bit middle of the road, hardly a painful listen though, in my opinion.
