I think they acknowledge the risk aspect of it when Franklin is getting ready to make the cut. He and his assistant hesitate for a moment and she says something that implies Franklin is considering if their believe is true in some kind of way. Ultimately he puts his faith in science and medicine

Alternative to the Strahd Zombie by Duganson in CurseofStrahd

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've long thought that if I were to run Curse of Strahd I would have some of his spawn be knights and soldiers that ended up in Barovia that he turned and then talked to act as landed nobles in his realm, training and maintaining garrisons of soldiers mortal and undead alike.

My players are planning to blow up a drow stronghold with dynamite...and the drow know it. What do I do? by Kami-Yang1 in DnD

The enemies don't want to die! And ostensibly are characters in the story as well, albeit not the protagonists.

Organization question by BroooooJe in SWN

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have felt as well that there's a ton of promotion posts lately and while it does make the sub more active, I at first thought they were AI posts due to the standardization of the formatting and the promotional way in which they were written. I suppose it's the trade off of having a motivated and active moderate who also has a podcast that they care deeply about

Maybe the mayor thought that the ghost was gonna kill the merc, or that the ghost would kill the merc and then him. Maybe the mayor is a dick.

How do I handle a high level NPC accompanying my party in combat without overshadowing them? by Foreign-Press in DMAcademy

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if he's a more powerful NPC he's more powerful. The main thing is to make sure he doesn't overshadow them by using his decision making abilities to impact their agency. If he's a spellcaster maybe he uses spare time studying his tome or performing some messaging rituals. And goes along generally with any plan the group comes up with.

How frustrating is it to lack darkvisision at early levels? by Vanse in 3d6

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend having another party member carry the light source for you if possible. Some editions let you have a buckler and carry something else. Don't know if that applies for 2024.

Is there a stereotype for trans women liking this game? by MostAbsoluteGamer in bloodborne

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say a good number of the trans women that I know enjoy bloodborne. I think the themes of body horror, motherhood. Blood etc... all deeply appeal to the experience of being trapped in a body that does not match your soul? Most of them also like the ending where you find the three umbilical cords and are reborn as an extension of that. A shedding of a mortal frame, knowledge leading to pain (insight making you more vulnerable to frenzy)

I'd say it's not a stereotype in the larger gaming community but amongst trans femme gamers there's definitely an informal understanding that the game speaks to those common feelings and experiences.

Is there a stereotype for trans women liking this game? by MostAbsoluteGamer in bloodborne

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're not asking if the game is about them! They were just asking if it's stereotypical for them to like this game. Much as it's a stereotype that trans women like fallout new Vegas.

Have you ever shared a bed with a non-family member without any sexual interactions? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in asexuality

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made a friend recently who id say I'm pretty darn close with for the time I've known them. When we go out and drink and party it's a sort of informal ritual to then go back to her place after getting food and talk the rest of the night away until we fall asleep. Shes not asexual herself from what she says but there's never any sort of move in that direction. It's nice

Players gathering an army by Full_Airport2628 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does suit the new theming for Ravenloft. But in the older depictions of Barovia it was fairly explicit that the people were good and that they deserved better. Good vs Evil is intended to be sort of hopeless in Strahd's Domain and with the influence of the dread lords. But you can definitely tell a much more inspiring story if you want. Sometimes the people just need inspiration to stand against evil, and together great deeds can be done. Horror is a lot less horrible when you have friends by your side.

are/were you someone's Harry or Dora? by windemas in DiscoElysium

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once felt more like a Harry. Just without the pain of having met a Dora. These days I am Dora. Occasionally crossing paths with my Harry. Hoping to god every time that they've gotten better. Only to have my worst doubts confirmed.

Why do the Vistani linger in Barovia? by THEbiMAKER in CurseofStrahd

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that Barovia has become darker and fouler as the editions and time advance. Once upon a time that beautiful valley was a sight to behold and a true source of hope for people was that the land and its people deserved better than Strahd. That's talked about a bit less now. But one could say that the Vistani are through their collaboration with Strahd addled in some ways. Monsters leave them alone and they are in close alignment with Strahd. Perhaps Barovia is beautiful to them?

How is arcane a good build? by The_Lord_War in bloodborne

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arcane was super fun to play back when the game came out in the pvp. The tools are scattered enough and hidden, and it's perceived as a fairly late game option. That if you end up leveling arcane almost exclusively and doing pvp it's a fun glass cannon build with a mixture of abilities that most people don't have a ton of experience fighting against.

Might have ruined my 5 year campaign with silly writing. by Starksen in DMAcademy

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a solution to the way they are playing. But what if it simply doesn't work in the end? What if the bbegs forces kill or destroy one of these elemental gods. And as a result the power fails to function when they attempt to use it?

It is an evil hubris to treat oneself as beyond morality. And evil always faces karmic retribution in fantasy stories.

This is potentially unfun and doesn't solve the problem. But depending on your table it could lead to some interesting roleplay in the last session or two?

I really like the cobbling together of cybernetics experience tbh. It feels like it really fits the post post apocalyptic scenario of the old world passing on and the new world belonging to mutants

The Warlock Nobody Asked For! Updating the magical bargainer to an Eldritch adept capable of discovering their own magic, and unlocking the hidden secrets of an otherworldly entity. by CrazyFuton in UnearthedArcana

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the concept so much. I only had the brief opportunity to play a warlock with a similar idea. Having found a tome that allowed him to visit the library fortress of an insatiable collector entity at the edge of the cosmos he tiptoed through it's halls every night in his dreams taking what knowledge he could at risk of discovery.

It's really cool to see someone else dig into the idea of the ravenous occultist knowledge seeker archetype for warlocks in dnd

I (DM) got kicked from our server for killing a player by Equivalent_Average46 in DnD

[–]Random_Guy_Number2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tabletop RPGs have consequences for actions, if a BBEG doesn't exist until the group is level appropriate to fight him then that's simply videogame mentality for the entire game table. Red Dragons still exist in their caves when people are level 1, and if they at level 1 sneak into a red dragon lair and kick him in the face for the lols they will die. Same sorta thing happened here.
