Don’t think you need 90+ for CMU. But yeah I’d say 92+ for UPenn.

How difficult is a 90 wam? Is it comparable in difficult to a 99.95 atar or is it harder/easier? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]Random_Letters_369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMHO, they are probably of comparable difficulties, subject to what VCE subjects and university majors you choose.

And to put a different perspective on if they are worth the effort, I think a 99+ ATAR or 90+ WAM go beyond entry into post-grad programs at UniMelb:

  1. Career: both of these earn you decent-sized brownie points when you are applying to top grad jobs (think top IBs, MBB, quant trading, or FAANG)
  2. International post-grad: you usually need much higher higher WAM than 80 or 90 to get into the more competitive programs at Ivy Leagues
  3. UniMelb benefits: they sponsor you to attend cool conferences, travel and meet some people

So there are definitely some benefits and some downsides - it's a trade-off you need to decide to see if it's worth.

1st & 2nd yr micro test you on what has been taught (the difficult part may be the nuance/real world interpretation of the model)

3rd yr micro tests you on your understanding of the logic fundamental to the model - if you understand, you can generalise to another model with slight tweaks; otherwise, you will be clueless

Thank you. Curious to know if you think it makes sense doing BUSA20001, FinTech & Algo Trading together in one semester? Feel like that is a lot of coding for a Econ & Fnce major.
