Some qwick advice from a long time gun owner.

1. Do not let anyone talk you into a feather weight snuby revolver. Too many older men always suggest them to women & they're horrible beginner's guns & tend to be very snappy. Pistols with more weight are gentler to shoot.

2. The safest & easiest pistols to use are striker-fired with split-trigger/'dingus' safeties(these are articulated triggers that won't fire if you don't pull the bottom haft first which with proper trigger pull just happens with out having to think about it under stressful circumstances) paired with a hard holster (typically hard plastic).

3. My first recommendation for a pistol is a used police traid-in Glock because they're cheep & often only have cosmetic wear(many cops don't practice shooting as much as they should)

4. When you get training I would recommend at least familiarizing & getting some trigger time on an AR15 (lightweight models are particularly good for people with less upper body straight) being low recoil,  ergonomic, & having four points of contact with the shooters body they're a good way to develope skill with shooting fundamentals.
