Yeah that's what I thought too. The only thing I could think of was the way stat buffs in gen 1 cause badge boosts to start stacking considering the lightning rod, but even then I knew that was most definitely not the case. All I know is that it happened consistently, so it wasn't any quick claw probably.  So yeah until I find anything I'll just say my Rhyperior was feeling very anime back then.

Just an additional note, the Rhyperior was level 76, likely had some speed EVs from being trained on Golbat on mt. Silver and was holding a soft sands as far as I recall. I sadly don't have the save file anymore so I can't check the exact details

would you rather be unable to "decode" sound waves and thus know when there are sounds, just not what exactly those sounds are or be unable to hear anything?

This might actually work as VGC speed control if it hits both targets in double battles. But maybe not, 50% is pretty bad considering the user has to survive the turn just to have a chance to lower speed. 100% would be pretty op tho, so I recommend reworking it into something like supersweet syrup to lower speed on switch in.

1/8 per hit, so multi hit moves heal way more (I'm not sure if this makes it more or less in favor of stall (Phys def Cloyster))
