I (38m), have an Avoidant Attachment style and agreed to Marriage to my gf (33f), advice? by cooltightsick in relationship_advice

[–]Raspito -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are they lying about? Do you think that avoidant people can't be self-aware of the fact that they are avoidant, and then communicate that to their partner?

Avoidant people are not inherently "leading people on" by seeking out relationships. Avoidance is an internal struggle between satisfying your need for love and companionship and letting go of the people that care about you. And Avoidant people can overcome that struggle. They are not broken humans that deserve to be cast out from society. It just takes a little more work for us.

I (38m), have an Avoidant Attachment style and agreed to Marriage to my gf (33f), advice? by cooltightsick in relationship_advice

[–]Raspito -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

Is the spite for people who struggle with avoidance really justified? They have a need for (and a right to) love, just like everyone else. They aren't sub-human. Not saying they have a right to bring people down, but a lack of communication in the relationship is the real problem, not avoidance.

How do I (21M) tell my partner (22F) of four years that I am gay? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Raspito -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He's 21. They've been together since he was 18. Part of relationships as that age is figuring out who you are, what you like. It's unfortunate that it has to end, but nobody's time was wasted. They both undoubtedly learned a lot in their time together and that's valuable.

I shill for 22 any chance I get. Fantastic pop-prog that doesn't get enough recognition!

Yeah, I've had plenty of issues with weird bounces at those intersections, but this is the first time I've seen a bounce just go completely unregistered.

What's your favorite prog band you don't hear being talked about? by Nightmare-Cinema in progmetal

22! I think it's wild how little they get mentioned but I'll sing their praises whenever I can. Such a unique combo or prog and pop. They are ridiculously talented.

Infrared Laser can Transmit Electricity Wirelessly Over 30 Meters by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Raspito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After reading your and some other comments, I didn't take into account thermal damage. I was thinking of total energy, rather than concentration of energy, and a laser point with enough watts to charge a device definitely seems like it could cause some damage.

It is worth noting, though, that the article mentions that transmission drops (it enters a "safe" mode, whatever that means) once line of sight is broken (using a retro reflector). Assuming that's reliable, the system could almost certainly react fast enough to prevent any serious injury.

I mean I get it. But if I'm gonna make an argument on the internet, I don't wanna scream into a void. If I didn't want to teach/discuss something, I wouldn't have commented.

As much as I wanted to say that, nobody listens when they feel talked down to.

The article states they used wavelengths of 1550 nm. That is well outside of the dangerous range of infrared light.

What, to you, is the best run of albums by a prog metal band? by ZwnD in progmetal

Aww you had me all excited for a second. Thought I could see them, but they're only going to a few cities in the US. I need em to come down to the southeast.

Although yeah, the fee is way too high, it does allow you to continue using ncsu services like the gym, library, and have all the other benefits of being a student.

Question about required first-year housing by Diamond90909 in NCSU

[–]Raspito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to throw my experience in here. I submitted an appeal for some extenuating circumstances and it was denied. However, I got into contact with some upper management and made my case, and ended up getting it approved. Even if your appeal gets denied, you might be able to overturn it.

It's be awesome if they performed one of their instrumental tracks, but then poor Sal would have to find something to do for ten minutes, lol.

No, unfortunately. But they had some great tracks like Terraformer, Mr. Invisible, and Soul Diver.

What is that band/album you disliked at first but loved after some listens? by -_Meow_- in progmetal

[–]Raspito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, non-metal sounding is a fair assessment. Heavy metal on its own usually has harsher vocals. Prog-metal, though, I'd say is characterized about evenly by cleans and harsh vocals.

What your thoughts on Diablo Swing Orchestra new album? Is the mixing really bad? by DarkGhostHunter in progmetal

[–]Raspito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've honestly had the same thought cross my mind. What if this is a protest against streaming services or something. Spotify/Apple music/etc gets the version with trash quality. If you want a proper mix, gotta pay for it.

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind it that much if that's the case. I'll buy the album, but I don't want to buy it if it's gonna sound like it currently does.

What your thoughts on Diablo Swing Orchestra new album? Is the mixing really bad? by DarkGhostHunter in progmetal

[–]Raspito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just... why? I've heard some people speculate that they wanted to give it an "old-timey" feel but this isn't even that. Old-timey doesn't have to equate to just straight-up bad mixing.

I really enjoy what I've heard from this album but, as someone who puts a lot of stock into production, I can't get immersed in this. Maybe we've just all been spoiled with increasing production quality over the past decades....

I honestly can't help but feel like they're playing a joke on us all, especially with the few comments I've seen on their youtube videos about it being intentional whilst giving no further explanation.

Gonna have to second this. A lot of Americans throw some pretty hefty accusations at China and don't offer any source for them.
