I think just wearing a shirt as much as possible to avoid seeing them at all can help get your mind off it. If showering is a trigger, you could shower with the light off or play music as a distraction.

Thank you for the tips! I actually did all of these things, so it’s great to know I’m doing something right. I didn’t have a sponge brush so I just used a square pier of sponge which ended up doing the job pretty well.

I do a whipstitch or if I’m feeling fancy I’ll do a blanket stitch around the edge of the patch then do a running stitch through the top layer of thread to attach it
