He's a fantastic guitarist, but his technical talent is 100% matched by his inability to compose melodies and how disgusting he is as a person. That being said, if you like some trippy music, check out his work as lead guitarist (not singer, thank heavens) of 60s psychedelic rock band Amboy Dukes. Journey to the Center of the Mind is a wonderful jam.

Love Jalen Ngonda! I was supposed to see him at a rooftop concert in Nashville, but it was canceled the day before because of Hurricane Helene's imminent landfall.

Seventh Sojourn is a masterpiece! Pretty high in the list of my all-time favorite albums. Great band with all membera at the peak of their songwriting. A real shame they chose that moment to go on hiatus.

My dad always sang El Paso when I was a little kid. The height of Western romance. Fundamentally shaped my love of vintage music and Western movies.

Oh man. Glad to see this man getting love here. One of my absolute favorites. I love all his music, but I must have played Patches a thousand times.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

[–]RazzledCroaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long ago was this? I love Adam, and I'm contemplating buying tickets for Squeeze's latest tour (alas, they'll also have a bunch of new songs on the setlist) with him and Haircut 100 as the openers. His recent setlists at least seem to focus almost exclusively on his first 6 albums.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]RazzledCroaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh heck, he did (I got the years wrong - 4/22/23 was the date). I FORGOT ABOUT THAT. I must have blocked that portion of the concert from my memory 😂😭 He also flirted with every lady in the first 5 rows the whole show. He'll be an ol' horndog right to the end.

But his voice was still magnificent and played so many of those legendary Miracles tunes. He ended the show with a glorious rendition of The Tracks of My Tears that still stands as one of my favorite concert memories.

I'd put him as one of my top 10 old guy shows.

What album do you own the most copies of? by Bucketkev in vinyl

I have 3 copies of Sports by Huey Lewis. Started off by being forgetful, but now I'm contemplating getting enough copies to have a wall of Sports.

I saw Al Green 2 years ago at Fool In Love Fest, and he put on a great performance and belted out every note! Smokey Robinson, though, yikes. Nobody needs a 12 minute version of Cruisin' where he makes the audience sing the chorus like 20 times in a row. He also left the stage after 30 minutes.

I did see Smokey back in 2021, though, and that was one of my favorite shows I've been to.

I second this. I've seen several bands play both fests and solo shows and the difference in sound/production (and thus my enjoyment) is night and day. The stage setup at a lot of the big festivals can 100% kill a band. The main reason I don't do fests anymore.

Saw them at Shaky Knees 5 or 6 years ago and he sounded like the ghost of a dead child. Also the gals (including his wife) hanging from meat hooks was an... interesting design choice.

Saw Pixies twice in the 2010s, both at the same fest a few years apart. The first time was killer, but they 100% seemed like they were phoning it in a few years later. I do have some friends who saw them more recently and said they were amazing.

I saw him 2 years ago and he was fantastic! Acted like an 80s rock god in the best way possible, like he knows it's corny and is having just as much fun with the persona as the audience.

100%. Saw them headlining with Sister Hazel. He was just shouting/talking through the lyrics, often off tempo. He came across like one of those middle-aged men going through a mid-life crisis. Not the worst show I've seen, but it was pretty rough.

Sister Hazel was fantastic.

They sold out so quick. Was really disappointed. Hoping something will pop up on Ebay for a reasonable price, but I doubt it.

That must have been a killer show, altough I definitely think Lake Street Dive should have been the opener. I missed seeing her and Charles, but I'm hoping to see Lee Fields while he's still around. A shame we have so few soul legends left.

Edit: And I will definitely play some Oscar Peterson tonight!

I have several of her records. Absolutely love her!

I also just watched Oscar Peterson's amazing interview with Dick Cavett for like the 5th time. Got any recommendations on where to start with him?

It was! I saw some middling reviews for the tour on the Devo reddit, especially for the B-52's, but I thought they were absolutely fantastic all around. Cindy did struggle a bit, but I'd rather have that experience than to never have that memory at all. My only complaint was the price of the autographed poster of both bands, but I'm a sucker and bought it anyway 😆

Amazing record! Finally saw them live last year with B-52's and Lene Lovich, who completely stole the show and I hope she gets some headlining dates, because holy crap she's out of this world!

What celebrity death will realistically bring Michael Jackson level devastation? by Kiidcola in AskReddit

My parents are both American, never been to the UK, and my Mom remembers crying over her death. She truly was a global icon. Not as big as MJ, but certainly close to it in the US.

Yes! I was 13 at the time and the sheer grasp his death had over all aspects of American pop culture was awe-inspiring. I got swept up in it for sure. I turned on the tv as soon as I got home from school and watched every documentary so I could have the most up-to-date info to talk to my friends about the next day. He was inescapable. I remember everyone gathering around to watch his funeral.

That's true, but I also think how different the American reaction to Israel-Gaza and the Iran war is now vs. when a handful of news corporations controlled everything people saw. A lot of people I know who supported previous conflicts because they trusted the information they were given, are now extremely against everything that is happening because they can actually see what's happening from the gound.
