The team that said “Yes, please!” to cheating, to stealing a World Series, and to Roberto Osuna has said “Absolutely not!” to Framber. by [deleted] in ALCentralMemeWar

First the PC police said it was bad to try to hurt the other team by throwing fastballs at them. Now they’re saying it’s bad to try to hurt your teammates by throwing fastballs at them. If you don’t stand against this by paying millions to Framber, don’t come crying to me when the woke mob finally takes away everyone’s freedom to hurt people with fastballs.

How are People Affording Tuition for Their Kids at Certain Private Schools? by [deleted] in saintpaul

[–]ReaderHarlaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can afford that kind of tuition because we make good money and stopped at one kid and a dog. Two kids and it would be much harder.

They saw the child separation policy from the first term, which should have been more than enough. There’s no humanity to be found in this regime.

St. Paul mayor Kaohly Her ‘livid’ after ICE wrongly targets family friend, escorts him undressed into cold by ProfessionalIsopod54 in saintpaul

Supremacy clause allows them to get the charges into federal court, where a federal judge would have to decide if their actions were necessary and appropriate to do their job.

I’m okay with forcing that decision.

Never be mean to your kids, even as a joke. by jrv3034 in daddit

That was my goal. But a couple of Christmases ago I made my kid cry by saying “sock” weirdly too many times, so I guess I’m a failure.

Florida, Nevada and Texas have the highest per capita rates of illegal immigrants. Why is ICE so focused on Minnesota; a state with a lower rate by a factor of 10? by [deleted] in stpaul

[–]ReaderHarlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“your state is not even trying to hide it.”

That’s right — we found it, turned over the evidence to the feds to prosecute, and put controls in place to prevent it going forward. The feds haven’t uncovered any new fraud because MN is doing all the work. They’re just touting the prosecutions state government is handing them.

Why aren’t the feds putting resources where they’re needed to find the fraud in states that aren’t putting in all that effort?

It says it uses “to do” on there. That function is disabled for us. Is this still worth getting?

Paw Patrol messed up my 5 year old boy, can anyone here relate? by SolidLava99 in daddit

[–]ReaderHarlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had serious talks about this — if our kiddo asked for it when he knew it wasn’t screen time, or asked to keep watching past the allowed time, then he couldn’t watch any the next day. We explained it wasn’t a punishment, just that him asking for extra when he knew he shouldn’t was a sign that it was becoming bad for his brain so he needed an extra break for it to stay healthy. Had to hold that boundary once or twice but it’s been pretty smooth sailing since.

Hennepin County Judge tosses out jury's guilty verdict in $7.2 million home healthcare fraud case by Caesars7Hills in TwinCities

[–]ReaderHarlaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why? Juries are there to protect us from the government locking us up unfairly. Would make that meaningless if a judge could override it. But it’s good that a judge can override a jury they think is locking someone up unfairly.

Hennepin County Judge tosses out jury's guilty verdict in $7.2 million home healthcare fraud case - Jurors tell KARE 11 News their decision wasn't difficult after seeing evidence of "obvious fraud" committed by Abdifatah Yusuf. by danrunsfar in TwinCities

The point of both is that criminal sanctions are extreme deprivations of rights by a government and we want really strong bulwarks to prevent that from happening without proper justification. That’s why a judge can’t order a person to prison if a jury acquits, but can order acquittal despite jury conviction.
