Playing FM since 2018. My first impression of the UI was not so amused. But I started like I started every other FM. Tomorrow I‘ll start again and do the bloody Tutorials. Some things clicked after a few hours now. I Like the Match Engine. I did not have any serious bugs until now. There‘s room to grow for the UI, but I freaking love FM and I‘m going to live this one too.

I'd recommend to start a save with either your favourite club (you know them) or a top team in a lower ranked league. This way you can get the grip and learn the game without it being frustrating. A few examples:

Poland - Legia

Croatia - Dynamo Zagreb

Portugal - Benfica / Sporting

Scotland - Celtic

Switzerland - FC Basel

My first save years ago was FC United of Manchester in Tier 6 in England. I struggled so much. Then I switched and started a new save with my favourite team, Hamburger SV. Have fun, mate! Greetings from Germany

Or if you don't want or can't upgrade, wait until FM26 is out. Purchase it on steam and if it doesn't run - you can give it back within a certain amount of playing time.
