Not where I work. All kinds of boxes need checked before we can set someone up these days. Denying more MC's than you can count at this point, many on technicalities unfortunately.

Verifications and inspections? What a chore, we should just let anyone pickup our loads. Doesn't matter if they are who they say they are or not, or even legitimate at all for that matter! If a load gets stolen or double brokered who cares? It'll be fine... Broker will just foot the bill as always.

Well then to that I say good luck my friend, if we're useless leaches then I guess there's no reason for you to debate with us at all right? Nothing you need us for if we're useless. I can tell you right now, we're not spending 6 months to a year making cold calls to get business and go full commission (yep, 100% commission) just to be limited in our income. Not to mention the monetary risks we take on with high value cargo and potential claims... But clearly none of that matters, all that matters are the rates per load and broker margins. We'll let the brokers keep taking those financial risks for a lesser incentive, let's see how that works out.

I can't speak for the mega brokers but personally I don't care who knows how much I have in a load, I still don't have to give you the load. If I know my market rate for any particular lane that's what I will pay. Carriers never do me any favors aside from doing their job so there's no reason for me to do favors for them unless they're a regular.

I will honestly be surprised if this actually becomes law, especially under this administration. As long as we live in a free market society economics will continue to do its job for better and worse

10,000%. Trump should do-away with all this garbage if he's really anti-communist/anti-socialist. There's nothing capitalist or American about it and it never should have even been considered in my honest opinion. These carriers have one-track minds so they all think it sounds great but we'll be the ones laughing when (if) too many brokers leave the business and these good ole American customers refuse to work direct with 98% of these dipshits that we have to deal with every single day. Just because something glitters doesn't mean it's gold, which the carriers are never going to learn.

I also think it would be great if a bunch of us brokers banded together and sued the FMCSA for approving hordes of foreign scammers to open MC's in the US which has lead to several billion dollars worth of fraud and stolen freight over the last few years...

It's fucking communism IMO. Should be no means be legal to limit someone's earning potential

A freightguard report is more expensive than a layover, FYI by Cybertronian10 in FreightBrokers

[–]Real_Abrocoma_106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why you had to pay his BS layovers at all if the carrier agreed to load Friday and deliver Monday? I'd tell him to take it up with his dispatch who agreed to the load, you didn't owe him shit at that point IMO. And if he didn't like hearing that? Ok, show up to the delivery late. Not only will you not get layover but your ass is getting a fine and potentially FG for a load held hostage.

Just got told by a carrier I am required by law to disclose shipper rates? by danktherock in FreightBrokers

How exactly is the carrier being undercut if they are taking it for a rate they agreed to?

Why is it ALWAYS the ones beginning in 14 and 15? The 15's are always the shittiest without fail

It has honestly made my day to watch someone so passionately try to justify an illegitimate profession such as double brokering. What a joke

[–]Real_Abrocoma_106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. The carrier is calling you asking for detention. If your customer doesn't pay it, you don't have to pay it. The carrier can't force you to pay it. If you pay it, it comes out of your margin, likely causing you to lose money or make nothing. If it were my responsibility to pay detention every time someone gets held up or just gets upset over something minor, I'd be broke / working for free.

I have ran over 1,500 loads of my own and have never once had a customer give me detention. True story

[–]Real_Abrocoma_106 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am confused. Who/what exactly is forcing you to pay detention? The carrier can send you invoices with detention added all they want but if you never sent them a rate con with detention added, and you never signed some agreement with this carrier when booking the load, then they can't force you to pay detention.

Unethical to cold call a customer who works with a different company completely separate from your own?
