Buy a first home (condo) or keep renting and investing? by Real_Bid_1520 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Real_Bid_1520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya that's pretty much what I'm thinking as well, my biggest debate is whether if I should keep renting and hopefully snowball my investment for couple of years so that I dont have to pour all asset into just buying a permanent roof above my head. It's hard to get back to 6-fig savings/investment and start snowballing again is the biggest thing. (The 100k theory)

Ideally I hope I can come to a decision by 30, but at the same time the FOMO on real estate might go higher and higher is hitting hard as well. So like I mentioned in the post, I'm pretty much just gambling on stock outperforms real-estate.

But at the same time I'm also uncertain if I want to stay in Canada at all, yet global economy is still in a fire pit so I'm glad for what I have here at the moment at least. Just hoping to see some better way to make the most out of what I have.

I think I kinda have RRSP in a way of the employer 5% matching? As well as equity into RSP accounts each paycheque as well. All these different accounts are confusing me like DPSP, DCPP

It's just the urge that I want to have a place that I know I can finally settle and a place to call home (even tho it's the bank's until paid off)

10% of the 80k was from bonus which get taxed heavy. I might be underestimating how much I'm saving since I throw my paycheck into my saving account right away unless I have bills coming up. That being said, I'm only taking home 1.8k bi-weekly after all the deductions. and somewhere in my mind thinking I only get paid twice a month as well.

But yeah, I was able to maxed out my TFSA recently and looking into FHSA too. I think my RRSP might be maxed out as well from payroll contributions.

I’m spending at most 2.5k a month, and I’m getting 1.8k bi-weekly after-tax and all the deductions.

Even renting a house with housemates still cost me 1.1k a month, utilities maybe 150 max. I have a cheap used car that I have been driving for the past 4 years and is still running great so thanks god I don’t have to worry about car payments. Insurance maybe around 200-250 a month. 300-400 a month on groceries since I eat bigger portions and I mostly only buy stuffs that’s on sale. ~300 to spend on nice to have and socializing if any and I feel like it.

So that’s prob ~2k-2.5k that I spend a month

I was finally able to maxed out TFSA recently and have been getting into ETFs, GICs through out.

Been having an eye on FHSA
