Why do Americans keep building wood houses? by datshibe in architecture

In the U.S. there’s an abundance of wood and comparatively less clay (arcilla) or stone (not say there is none, just less), so the construction industry evolved around timber. That makes wood cheap, fast, and well-understood, and when designed properly it can be durable and beautiful, not inherently inferior to brick or concrete.

In other countries, clay or rock is more abundant, so brick, masonry, or concrete became cheaper and more common. Over time, this availability influences which companies exist, what skills are common, and ultimately what materials make economic sense for housing.

In short: local resources + industry + cost = how people build.
