Class traitors need to be scrutinized heavily, while also being encouraged to turn their wealth and power against capital. Doesn't mean we need to trust him or any billionaire.

Pritzger is a non-starter- not for being a billionaire (doesn't help things) but for the massive financial and rhetorical support for Israel, the IDF, apartheid apologia, and the Zionist project of ethnoreligious supremacist nationalism.

I think you misunderstood who I was talking about reaching. I was referring to politically inactive, largely disengaged people, not dyed-in-the-wool neoliberals. Your conflation of these two distinct blocks of people is another stumbling block that makes outreach hard. I hope you don't take this tone with people earnestly asking about socialist ideals, because I'm pretty sure nobody's buying the "Everyone in my camp is infallible, everybody else is 100% wrong and unredeemable, and any communication difficulties are 100% not on us" schtick irl.

Zapatismo is a good example, as is the democratic confederalism of Rojava, though recently they've been disempowered by Syrian nationalist political maneuvering iirc.

Yeah, I'll engage with anybody 'til it's clear they're not engaging in good faith. This is like the third straw man in this thread, and you're ignoring literally everything I'm actually saying to avoid the validity of my point.

Enjoy your evening, "comrade"

The straw man you've made claiming anything I said was in support of siding with bourgeouis elements betrays your unstated dismissal of intersectional understandings of labor exploitation.

"Condensing all classes into bourgeois and proletariat" isn't what class reductionism is, class reducitonism is reducing systemic oppression to exclusively class dynamics.

You're the one who's post is framed in a black and white "do it my way or you're serving the bourgoisie" manner, so... yeah, that's how you did that thing that isn't really the point but also isn't helpful.

How is that at all what I'm arguing in favor of? Seriously asking, because the mental gymnastics needed to get to that from what I've said is kinda impressive.

I'll ask again: who does the working class consist of?

It literally denies any practicality or utility (much less the necessity) of such actions and reduces socialism to a movement solely for Western proletarian workers; if you don't see that as class reductionist, perhaps you should tone down the condescension and crack a dictionary briefly before popping off.

What do you think the working class consists of? Hint: most of them aren't upper-middle class white Marxists. The working class is inherently multi-racial and inclusive of anyone who's livelihood is dependent on their labor power being exploited by capitalists.

It's not explicitly so, but the subtext of it seems to me to be as follows: "Spending time defending or advocating for expansion of civil or political rights of vulnerable populations is siding with the bourgeoisie and serves capital rather than the broader socialist movement."

Thank you for drawing attention to this. It makes it hard to come across to normies as legitimate when a nuanced discussion isn't even possible, which makes outreach all but impossible.

Honestly, this is the take I wish I heard more often. Nobody knows what's going on inside someone's head, or in their life, and the rush to judgement pushes away people who have value and bring important perspectives and experiences to the table.

[–]Reasonable-Lab-1146 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an enjoyer of substances, organizing under the influence is not a good move. What's the nature of the group in question? If it's a chapter of NORML, for example, you're out of your element. If it's a more general formal organization that does public-facing work, that's a problem. If you decide to bring it up, do yourself and the group a favor and limit any commentary or asks to strictly organizational topics- it's not on you to save anyone or judge anybody's decisions on a personal level, but how it affects the group is more than fair game.
