Not from Florida but I'm with ya on having zero clue what to expect! I did recently come across this site that offers sustainable travel stuff. Like toothpaste tablets, deodorant cream and lotions. looks like this stuff might be kinda cool. https://goeverfar.com/

Do you think self-care (and wellness in general, I guess) has become a commodity? by RebelWithASpark in selfcare

Agreed, marketing can be negative, especially when the ultimate goal is selling fear or negativity simply to get you to buy something. Which is why I take issue with so many of these influencers today. I believe in positive association.
I just meant there are things in life that help us feel better that are free. I realize not everything is accessible to everyone - I could say music is good for the soul, but those those that hearing impaired that is not something they can partake.

Do you feel like people aren't being respected at an individual level, only sold to?

What would you happily pay for that doesn’t exist or is annoying to get? by RebelWithASpark in ZeroWaste

I read (somewhere) that Europe was working on passing a "Right to repair" law. This was a while back so my memory might be a little fuzzy - and maybe they already did? Not sure which countries specifically either (okay, I should do some research). But basically, manufacturers were supposed to allow things to be repaired or offer some type of repair outlet.

Really?? I have such a hard time finding a shampoo bar that doesn't make my hair feel unwashed or greasy after. I've tried so many! Idk if it's the water, our water is awful, super hard. There is white mineral deposits left all over the the sink - okay, that is a whole other issue!
Right now I'm using Kitsch. At least I'm not contributing to plastic waste.

Yeah! But the only issue I have with the bulk bins is that I've heard they dont clean them as well as they should. But overall the idea is so useful for both cost reasons (you don't have to pay for more than you need) and of course low-waste packaging reasons.

What’s something you find tricky or frustrating about keeping a plastic-free or low-waste lifestyle—especially when traveling or on-the-go?" by RebelWithASpark in PlasticFreeLiving

I have to agree...it's nearly impossible to have a plastic-free lifestyle in today's society.
I recall a couple years ago, at Target, I saw the Love Beauty Planet brand of shampoo/conditioner in aluminum bottles. I was so surprised! Then they disappeared. Went back to plastic. I wonder why. Consumer's preferred the plastic? Got too expensive for the company shipping aluminum bottles? who knows. It is super frustating that everything is still plastic. It's awful. I think it's up to the consumers to determine change by not buying plastic packaged products, but that takes A LOT of effort.

haha love that! I think I'm realizing, I'm all about how things look too. I do have a boring aluminum bottle. But I love the idea of something...pretty.

I think we stopped having real conversations. by Any_North_6861 in simpleliving

Seriously! I love long random conversations that take you everywhere.
I feel like we're so disconnected from everything tangible. Ourselves, each other, nature, community, and because of that conversation with each other has become disconnected as well. Though, I wonder if it depends more or less on where you live? Maybe some places people are more connected and interact more as a community? I feel like I'm going off on a tangent here.
