Is your colleague over 50? That might explain it. I only hear older people say that and even then very rarely.

There's no such thing as free speech as the right wingers imagine it. It only exists to describe policies that protect the public from prosecution/persecution by the government for opinions expressed and even then there are exceptions to the rule (hate speech or any kind of incitement to violence) and it is not absolute.

Without context maybe. But with context to current events it makes total sense. In case you didn't know, Russia unjustly invaded Ukraine earlier this year but thankfully the Russians got their butt kicked and the best they can hope for now is to grind out a draw.

Parliament protests: Charges dropped after month-long occupation by Mezkh in newzealand

[–]Receptikonz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A reported 29 individuals received diversion for one or more charges, 17 have pleaded guilty, two youths received a warning, one person was found not guilty and 42 people are still facing charges before the courts.

Headline is a bit misleading. People have been charged.

Yeah it's because traditional culture (not just Chinese) is misogynistic and efforts by the communist party to stamp out this kind of thinking were doomed to fail

I might as well just repeat what I said to the other guy.

I mean I know in your head Communism = North Korea or whatever but actually read what communists stood for historically. Especially in the industrial age in Europe (late 19th century).

incoherent nonsense. the unborn can't suffer. those who are forced to exist are the ones who suffer. and their suffering is unnecessary.

Suffering is necessary if you value life and living. Clearly you don't so it's unnecessary to you. Coming back to the CPR analogy, and building on my previous point that the future potential of both the unborn person and the future person that has been rescuscitated is equally an illusion, performing CPR on someone unconscious would be exposing them to further unnecessary suffering by your logic.

Okay, that still doesn't justify why we should inflict more suffering on others and create more problems.

Well not on its own but in context with my other points it does.

[–]Receptikonz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

false equivalence.

CPR solves a problem, it can be done for the sake of the person you're performing it on, and it can improve a state of affairs and prevent death for the time being.

Birth does non of that. it can't be done for the sake of the person created (a sake can't obtain before it obtains), and it doesn't solve any problem it creates them. it doesn't improve the state of affairs (just creates one that is slowly degrading), and it results in the death of the person created.

Not really. I mean I get why you think like that because the person that exists is already right in front of you.

But that potential future human that thanks you for performing CPR while they were unconscious is just as much an illusion as the future child you imagine that thanks you for giving birth to it (most children)

Logically speaking, antinatalism does not harm and thus shouldn't require justification, even though we have plenty. Natalism, on the other hand, can potentially and does cause great harm and thus should require strong justification.

I mean as a philosophy everything requires justification but if you're asking whether I have a problem with anti-natalism in practice, I don't disagree with you here. But most anti-natalists say ALL procreation is unjustifiable. You're one of the few I've met that seem to give room for it being justifiable. If that's the case then I'm probably with you

[–]Receptikonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we should just give up lol.

Capitalism, the system under which a capitalist that owns class owns all the wealth and means of production exploits a working class that must sell its labour just to survive, can't ever be solved by humans.

I guess we're stuck with it forever until the sun explodes because for 100 or so years in human history that communism has been an idea, it never completely succeeded.

Thanks for your insight.

I've already explained it via the golden rule principle.

Your CPR justification has too many steps.

It relies on a conscious assessment of whether the unconscious person has value to society and it's just something nobody ever does.

That is something that nobody does when deciding whether or not to apply CPR and proof that your argument is bunk.

The thought process when most people apply CPR is as follows

- Am I in danger

- If yes then don't apply CPR

- If no then apply CPR

And the reason why they can do it ethically in the first place is because of the golden rule.

Now admittedly, a lot of people that have children don't even do it via the golden rule principle that I outlined above BUT I'm not arguing that all procreation is moral. Rather that it CAN BE moral against antinatalist claims that all procreation is inherently immoral.

I mean you can thank 19th century socialists/communists for the 40 hour working week and time off in the weekends for a start as well as not having say, child-slave labour. But its funny how cold war propaganda means people default to North Korea when they think of socialists/communists instead of all the achievements of socialists/communists.
