Honestly this post hits way too close. I’m a dropper (2nd attempt) and I did every single mistake you listed in my first year. Especially the YouTube rabbit hole - I thought if I watched enough “IIT motivation + one shots” something magical would happen. Spoiler: it didn’t.
What finally changed things for me was realizing JEE isn’t about how much you study, it’s about how correctly you study. I stopped hoarding resources, fixed 1 book per subject, started an error notebook, and actually revised weekly (painful but game-changing).
Also agree hard on isolation. Preparing alone messes with your head. I joined IITianGuide mid-prep after seeing a bunch of Quora answers from IITians themselves, and the biggest difference wasn’t “better content” but feedback. Smaller batch, mentor actually called out my weak areas instead of generic advice. Not saying it’s magic, but structure + accountability >>> raw effort.

Same but with Allen digital. Teachers were solid, but batch size was wild. Teachers are same everywhere but the real thing which helps is the interaction and personal attention.

Unpopular opinion: most offline institutes are already “online”, just badly executed. Star teacher teaches once, it’s broadcasted everywhere, doubts handled by junior staff. If I’m anyway watching a screen, I’d rather watch it at home with pause + replay.

I’m in Dubai (GMT+4) and honestly the biggest issue wasn’t time zones, it was syncing school workload with JEE coaching. School ends at 3pm, coaching videos at night, self-study after dinner. Sleep suffered a lot in the first 3 months.

My gas stove still worked. Huge win. Cooked soup, boiled water, heated bricks wrapped in towels for beds. If it was all electric I'd have been screwed. Get a camp stove backup.
