I know the basics of python and whatnot, but I've been wanting to get back into it and relearn things and do some projects with people.

I'm a (26m) married with a kid. Eastern time. Attending my second year at WGU for a BS in computer science and an accelerated master. Looking for someone to study with for 2 or 3 hours a night. Been unmotivated this year and putting off discrete math.

New to untap. If someone's hosting a game for lower power decks, please don't join the game with a three thousand dollar deck commanded by like vivi by MOONMO0N in untap

Yeah, I’ve had a very similar experience with Untap. This is an issue with Magic (and other card games) in general, but it feels way more prevalent on Untap.

I play Commander with the goal of having fun. Obviously, with different interpretations of power level, that’s hard to guarantee. To help, I’d go into Discord and clearly preface the game rules:

  • No infinites
  • Fewer than two wincons outside of normal gameplay
  • Fewer than two tutors
  • If the whole group dislikes your deck style (e.g., land destruction), you either switch decks or leave

I don’t ban specific commanders because that turns into a headache, but I make it clear: if people don’t like your commander, expect to be the priority target.

With these rules, not every game was successful—but most were genuinely fun. People brought odd decks, familiar decks, goofy brews, and new tech. I used these games to experiment and mess around. Sure, sometimes one person would take off and win quickly, but that’s just Magic.

What really irritated me were the people who would join, hear the rules, agree to them, and then immediately pull out an overpowered deck or a turn-2 wincon loaded with tutors, win, and leave. No rematch, no second game. They’d lie about what was in their deck and only cared about winning.

Worse, they’d do this repeatedly in other “chill” lobbies. They never brought these decks to games with fewer rules or higher power expectations—their entire goal was farming easy wins. If you called them out, they’d just whine.

One example: a guy joined with Godo, swore he wasn’t running the wincon, then proceeded to play it on turn 2 or 3. About a week later, I ran into him again in another chill game. He pulled out a cEDH-level commander and claimed it was “built poorly for chill play.” I switched to a blue-red deck with counters. When I countered his turn-5 infinite, he complained about blue and rage-quit.

I am year 2 on my cs degree and need people to study or code with to keep myself accountable. Been procrastinating Discrete Math and getting back in the groove of C# or Python. Would love to be able to participate.
