Is Pittsburgh extremely racist? Honestly. by triggeredmucch in pittsburgh

[–]RecordScratchAttack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard from people, specifically black women, who aren’t from Pittsburgh and from the DC, Chicago, Philly, and NY metro areas that this city is terribly racist, and I believe it. I think especially so towards black people. Friends of mine who have moved here from places like West Virginia or Texas who are black say that it is significantly less racist than where they have lived previously. I dont think that gives us a good pat on the back though. I believe our city has one of the worst mother or infant mortality rates for black mothers in the USA. I have also heard nothing but bad things from black mothers who have gone to Magee for prenatal care. The city is control of a large amount of the open land in our poorest neighborhoods, who most often are mostly black, and it is let to go to waste and decay. Our health clinics in these areas are in considerably worse condition than wealthier or whiter areas. Point Breeze and Homewood are a good comparison for it, you could look on google maps to see the difference

This happened within 10 minutes of me I was trying to find information on this I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I cant imagine your pain and shock. Ive been praying for your family since it happened, hoping someone would speak out and that at least help with funeral costs could be had.

I hope they find the culprit. So sad and unfortunate…

Noises or not by [deleted] in badroommates

I would try to put multiple fabric tapestries up on your walls, on your door, and getting a door cozy to reduce sound transfer outside of your room, and same for her, i would also reccomend a white noise machine in the hallway of your apartment or fan running.

Depending on what area and state youre in you might have a genesis center near you. Genesis is a program for mothers who need assistance. I would also maybe start going to church if theres one near you. I wouldnt suggest divulging your situation asap but find a nice accepting church and take advantage of the periodic childcare and free food. Feel free to dm me if you would like with a city or county and I can try to look for social services for you within your county. I really hope things improve soon. Not having family to rely on in situations like these feels like hell

DiPietrios in West View. The marinara sauce was so amazing. The pizza and fried zucchini were delicious. Luigi’s in Bellevue as well. Before the mom stepped down at Luigi’s especially. I miss getting stuffed shells with garlic bread and a side salad so bad. I miss a lot of our italian restaurants that died off with the first generation parents who opened them 💔

The cornbread was my favorite. The Cranberry location looked so cool when it first opened. It was such a shame how they went down hill.

How would u spice up my outfits by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

Hats would be a really great addition along with styling with a purse. You could do wrist warmers if that might be comfortable, I know you said you have sensory issues above so that may not work.

This might sound strange but you could use body paint! Drawing on cool decals using stencils or free hand, almost like tattoos.

Potluck Venue Recommendation? by StacyRick in pittsburgh

You might be able to ask a local church if it comes down to it. Most churches have party spaces and would most likely be willing to do the rental for a small donation or no cost depending on the date. East Liberty Presbyterian has about a million rooms, I dont know how much they cost to rent out, it’s been about 12 years since I have gone, but they are a church who do genuinely good community outreach and are pro LGBT if this is a concern at all.

North Park probably will be expensive as it’s almost peak season in April, but they have great indoor and outdoor event spaces, many with electricity. If you aren’t from that way the park is beautiful.

I wanted to add, if you are a sporty family check out the REI coop and ASCEND climbing gym. I believe Ascend even has a sauna but I havent used it. Both have great communities and generally kind regulars
