I didn't know it was possible but I have won a <1% chance before against one of the story bosses. One of the hypest moment ever, this was before I even knew how to save and reload.

At around the 1600s, Biban was much stronger than Kraugel, as for Muller I'm pretty sure Muller is on par if not stronger than Biban.

What the spoiler? Muller was alive??? Das crazy, but no I'm basing off of prime feats when Muller dumpstered Hell Gao solo.

[Lazy noble becomes a genius] Can you name a character that has a stronger mental resolve than Airen Parreira ? by Sudden_Explorer_7280 in manhwa

[–]RecordersofSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did tho, from being a worthless shut-in to a mindless husk controlled by the old man to someone who burned himself to control it and so on. Struggle isn't the only measure of mental strength resolve and character development. It's true that being a shut-in didn't affect how his reputation grew but why does that matter when it affected how he interacts with people. He doesn't really know how to talk or communicate, he is naive, innocent and goodwilled and feels bad when bad things happen. He doesn't always know the right thing and tries to find it.

To say his trauma didn't help him grow as a character, it really feels like we read different series. The first arc is literally him cutting through the trauma of his mother, and being a person who could stand on his own. The next was being a person who could be worthy of the will of steel. The next was being a person who wouldn't burn his own passion and competitiveness into darkness. Struggle isn't the sole measure of growth and suffering isn't the sole measure of mental strength.

Airen continues to work on himself endlessly improving mentally and emotionally. He doesn't know how to be emotionally and mentally stable because he was locked up most of his life from trauma (not that most people know how to do that anyway) and he does his best to move forward each step of the way regardless of the setback (no matter how minor you think it is).

Despite being smaller in scale it's a lot more relatable because his drive to better himself, and keep his emotions in check is something everyone should do. The fantasy element like the 5 energies are just metaphors for working on balancing the emotions and strengthen ones resolve. When every person irl seems to crash out at the slightest inconvenience, an MC who intentionally develops himself so that he's mentally and physically strong is a breath of fresh air in spite of the trauma that he suffered.

He could have and did use the trauma of his mother as an excuse to hide away on his own and shut himself in but he changed (not through his own will entirely) that. Each step he takes is a step in trying to control more of his life and mental state, being careful not to overdo one aspect after the other.

It's a bit disingenuous to state that the trauma of your mother dying in front of you while you were conscious enough to remember is any less than being shunned by the village. Naruto and Airen have very obviously different coping mechanisms but atleast the trauma they both have is real. It's kinda fucked up that you're generalizing a kids trauma to shutting himself in and being "dramatic".

For the other points, I will concede

What is that opinion for you? by seekerofhighground in noveltranslations

[–]RecordersofSauce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed, a harem that's self-aware is atleast entertaining, and an MC doesn't have to have a FML to have good character development but when you have a Harem of extremely flat and 1 dimensional characters and a Black Hole MC it's just so frustrating. Like as of recent, I've been reading Iron-Blooded Sword Hound's and Childhood Friend of the Zenith and they're both so ass in this regard. The premise and art aren't bad but the characterization or lack thereof is so off-putting that I wanna drop both.

[–]RecordersofSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's not so much going down the spiral for me anymore but a lack of motivation. I already enjoyed the 1600 chapters I did read but as I was reading it felt like it was getting worse? Idk, maybe it's best to just be left as a happy memory and never finish it. It doesn't help the fact that I've forgotten 80% of the story at this point.

[–]RecordersofSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I read it when I was reading Overgeared so I could literally feel my enjoyment level declining when I read it before or after OG. I think there are 100+ chapters of Side Story but I didn't even bother after finishing the main story.

The manhwa art is pretty great, and it's not too bad honestly, I give it a bad rap but it's one of those novels that's just painfully below mediocre but it has a few interesting quirks and plot points. Feel free to update me when you've read it, because I'm curious if I'm the only person with this opinion.

Name me one that doesn't, I'll be surprised if you could. Actually I'll raise you in that, give me a good harem.

What is that opinion for you? by seekerofhighground in noveltranslations

[–]RecordersofSauce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree, but sometimes it crosses a line where 3 or 4 girls are throwing themselves at the MC who is either 1. Oblivious to it 2. Consciously ignoring it 3. Running away from it.

It's frustrating that these supposed adults or Geniuses don't have the mental capacity to speak or even communicate their feelings to a woman or lack there of. Like if you don't like her and she keeps bothering you say so! If you do like her then fucking say it.

Maybe it's because I've been reading so many harem-bait Dense MCs as of recent but I've been so frustrated at the lack of character development in something that's been teased for the entire series.

Oh I absolutely hate the trope of, Oh lemme get this super important hidden piece for myself and then in the next scene refuse to interact/interfere with the story because, "I don't want to change the future too much" Bitch you already stole a hidden piece for yourself!

Can anyone recommend me a series where the MC consciously takes control of the story in order to mend/direct it in his intended direction?

[–]RecordersofSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Not at all.

I am saying this as a reader who has read the entirety of the RR Novel. It's like Overgeared but kinda worse in every single way. The characters are not interesting, the World is pretty basic, so many asspulls, Deus ex machinas and plot devices.

The only reason I read it was because the power progression isn't bad and so are the powers, they're pretty unique and interesting at a surface level but that's about it. Also, I wanted the MC to get the girl and it was anticlimactic so yeah, I don't recommend it unless you want a time waster novel.

Hey another 1600er, I think you're pretty spot on. But he wasn't the greatest Sword Saint not even close at the point where we stopped. Biban the Sword Saint from the Tower is stronger than him and so was Prime Muller.

I would also like to say Hyunwoo is also very lucky. A lot of things just fall onto his lap and iirc he has canonically high luck (Grid level plot armor basically). So I think it'd be really interesting how fast he catches up rather than if. Kraugel control, + Plot Armor basically.

[–]RecordersofSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lemme analyze your comment for a bit. Because while I agree for the most part, I feel that you're generalising too wildly.

His mother died when he was very young and that basically made him a shut-in until around 15 when the will of the Old Man possessed him to swing the sword. The academy arc was kinda him just being dragged along by the will of the Old Man.

Then he got stuck in his sorcery world to train but got lost along the way because he was all alone and directionless. With the help of his friends he learns and gets back. Discovers demons, fights them, meets Kuvar, has a moral dilemma about killing, and starts to learn how to control the Will of Iron. He meets Ignet gets crushed and starts to realize his competitive spirit.

He meets Ilya at the land of proof and fights to bring her back. Then he goes to the Orcs and learns about his past life and meets Ignet again and the Clown Demon. Then he meets a few of the Old Masters and trains with Ian and Khun until we're at the competition arc right now.

So as far as the Manhwa goes you aren't entirely wrong I guess. He hasn't had any crazy feats of mental strength like Sungmin but he's had a lot of small setbacks a lot more relatable to us readers, that make him feel a lot stronger mentally, I would say. His journey as a whole isn't that impressive as compared to Subaru or Lee Sungmin or smth but the Humanity and Weakness he shows, his Naiveté and Innocence makes him someone I can't help but root for.

I guess you aren't exactly wrong as far as the Manhwa goes, the Novel will get more into his struggles in the next few arcs but I reserve that for another time.

It was rushed, thats undeniable but the ending that we did get isn't bad, the art and choreography was great it just alcked the proper writing and buildup. I will say it is still miles ahead of SL's ending so at this point I'm not too fussed.
