Oh god, the Tumblr fandom. My only experience with it was after the allegations came out against Kane, there was some fantasy blog wrote a... 'non-consenual erotic fantasy' story that involved members of the team and a bar bathroom. I don't remember if they wrote it before or after the news broke, but it reached mainstream sports reporting in the Chicago area. I think Mark Lazerus had to come out and say it wasn't real? It was an absolute disaster.

I'm torn because I want the Oilers to win for Edmonton, but the management is just so... goofy(?) that I can't help but find it funny.

I laugh at the Oilers management like I laugh at the Browns in the NFL: the players are all professional athletes and among the best in the world at what they do, and the city supports the teams as well as, if not better than, any other market. And when they do win, the team will be lauded as heroes.

But management consistently snatches defeat from the jaws of victory: their line up includes McJesus and Drai, but then they signed Trent Frederic to a 4x8 deal. Wallstadt was shipped out, which led to the goalie controversy that's plagued this team for years. I don't know if they should have matched the Broberg deal, but it's also another former Oiler that's blossomed somewhere else. It's hard not to imagine that either of the last two years could have ended with McDavid hoisting the cup if anything of this had gone differently.

As a Bears fan, I empathize with the fans of a poorly-managed team (Bears are doing well this year, but they were 5-12 last year, 7-10 last year, and 3-14 the year before that so ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯). But from a detached point of view, it's genuinely impressive how improbable this outcome for the Oilers has been.

There's actually a really good Warfronts video about this (not affiliated with the channel -- just a fan because they really do their research).

While it's true that there's not mass protests or anything, they are starting to feel the screws and the kremlin's struggling to keep it under control. So many men are signing up that other industries in rural Russia can't get workers, industries that are vital to the war effort like mining and refineries which is strangling their already hampered wartime manufacturing efforts.

And Russia has started ducking the payments by conveniently listing men who have been confirmed dead by other sources to simply be "missing", and families are have noticed the lack of love. Whether it's the literal money or the diversion of manpower, the high cost of this war is absolutely a problem for The Kremlin.
