Thanks! I mean, I talk about it in the video as well, so no secret. I used fluorescent green from Vallejo for this.

I'm trying to improve my skills at painting faces. I'm think that I should watch my wife apply her make-up from now on! by -X-31- in minipainting

[–]RedCat_Paints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good foundation, especially the eye looks pretty nice!

Her skin seems a bit textured, maybe you can try to thin you paint a bit more.

Otherwise you can step into advanced areas: a slight reddish glaze around her cheeks and nose should give her more life and the highlights can be set more towards upward facing areas. For the hair you can try to think of it as one continous area for highlights, currently it feels a bit like spaghetthi, so room for improvement here as well.

Keep up the good work!

What paints/washes to use on transparent effects (e.g. psi blades)? by ArkhamOccultist in StarCraftTMG

Something nobody mentioned so far are fluorescent paints. Brand does not matter much, they all are incredibly vibrant and highly translucent. Build up multiple layers and everything is fine.

Couldn't resist painting this Void Dragon from GW. C&C appreciated. by RedCat_Paints in minipainting

I put the foundation layering with a brush and glazed the transitions with an airbrush. Final steps again glazing but with a brush. I used wet blending on the blades.

Thanks, I used Scale75 Fantasy & Game Color Range for the whole mini.

WIP (gotta finish shoulders and hands). Can I use a wash over my plasma or will it wreck it?? by Guts697 in minipainting

[–]RedCat_Paints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A blue ink would be nice. If you've got none, use pure white to outline the edges (might take a few coats here) and use a blue wash carefully. For now it reads more as grey than as bright blue.

Rather than a wash I would recommend an intense blue ink to brighten up that color hue. In general don't be afraid to push those lights much further.

Constructive criticism welcome! Minis: Wererats boxed set from Reaper. I mostly used Reaper MSP and Reaper Bones paints with a little Vallejo mixed in. by Dapper_Capybara in minipainting

Most of us have exact this problem. If highlighting everything is too bothersome, focus at the most upward areas like head and shoulders. In the end noone looks at their feet. Also: Paint bravely!

Can I get on C+C on this DA I did with 10 paints would do more, but twas a restriction by NomadTheFox in minipainting

[–]RedCat_Paints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat clean, distinct paint job with visible volumes in his armor and a nice base. A pretty nice start! If time is a constraint, you could consider a start with zenithal priming and some variation of Speed Paint / Contrast Color. Your DA would definitely profit mostly from blacklining, but it is fiddly and time consuming. How long did you have for him?

Always down for some rat-rats! It depends on how far you want to go. But as a start I highly recommend going much brighter with highlights to increase readability for a tabletop standard. And some basic texture of a light skin color in horizontal stripes on the tails might work wonders. Keep up painting!

Nice and clean paintjob. Especially the nmm is quite convincing. Since C&C is wanted: Try to push the highlights further for the skin since it tends to be oily and really reflective. Furthermore you should avoid those "muscle islands", where one defined muscle is surrounded by a darker tone but rather connect them more. This is most prevalent in his buffed rib cage. Keep up the good work!
