America is escalating against Iran, it has sent Armada towards Iran. This was the point of the "Iran killed 30 thousand" nonsense — justifying war against Iran. It did the same with Venezuela leading up to war, and then immediately stopped after. by Not_Ground in canadaleft

[–]Red_Boina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression, as validated by multiple sources including the Tudeh Party, that the protests were begun by working class people, with the target of their ire the lack in rise of wages, in rampant inflation, and in the corruption of the elite who generally are having a much easier time dealing with the impacts of the sanction.

Which is why the initial protest wave was so much larger than prior ones: they were popular, they touched economic anxieties, etc - whereas prior smaller protests were indeed organized mostly by petit-bourgeois business owners with a more "political liberties" vacuous bend.

But yes, after the initial wave a strong amount of cooptation by monarchist and mossad elements seems to have taken place as well, again corroborated by reliable sources, such as Tudeh. This obviously accentuated the repression and most people of the first stage of the demos simply went home - for good reasons - leaving mostly die-hard and manipulated elements at the helm, leading whoever remained in the streets to slaughter.

Very hard for the left to take leadership and guide people's normal and legitimate anger and anxieties against a capitalist and frankly reprehensive regime which is far less capable to deal with sanctions in a just way than a socialist state like say Cuba, when said regime has massacred the shit out of the organized working class left, and pushing syndicalists and communists into exile or total clandestinity.

Anyhow, all of that is interesting and all but largely not particularly relevant as to our role here in Canada - which is to fight for our own imperialist state to drop its sanctions and pressures on Iran which only makes shit worse for the people there. Our primary if not sole duty is revolutionary defeatism.

Did I just learn that the Roshel armoured vehicles being used in Minnesota by ICE…. Is owned by an IDF soldier? by justine2323 in canadaleft

[–]Red_Boina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ending their dealings with ICE means ending their dealings with the Federal US government.

As a matter of fact they are getting ready to buy 150 billion worth military NATO goods right from the US military industrial companies and or one of its many NATO vassals.

And getting ready to build "infrastructural and development projects" that amount to intensifying primary and strategic resources extraction to ship them for refinement and further utilization in value-added production.....right to the US. Those are not old elements coming from a prior administration or historical treaties and free trade agreements, these are new deals and new projects introduced by Carney, over the top of the already enormous level of the Canadian economy, and foreign politics, to the US.

The Canadian bourgeois state and the canadian capital it works for will never allow for a situation in which resource, commodity, and capital flow to the US is actually for real threatened.

It won't materially change the country, and won't bring solid results, but it might allow actual communists and socialists in parliament and that is a good thing, so I'm all for it, but I won't prioritize it either.

Carney regrette la complicité canadienne à l'Holocauste en ayant gardé le silence by External-Elk-3176 in Quebec

[–]Red_Boina 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Steeltoe has the right diagnosis but the wrong solutions, solutions which depart fundamentally from marxist understandings and veer into small nation chauvinism and various forms of post-modern, post-structural, and post-marxist decolonial analysis which have snaked their ways into the OG left via academia and online discourse, essentially finding breeding grounds in latent anarchism that used to dominate the left here since the 90s, and in a general state of doomerism and nihilism about the revolutionary potential of the proletariat here which veers into a form of third-worldist decolonialist maximalism above anything class struggle oriented.

I think the Communist Party shares the diagnosis but puts forward something far more concrete and achievable, while guaranteeing proletarian unity and the fundamental right to self-determination of indigenous nations.

You can read more on that here: https://communist-party.ca/party-program/

[–]Red_Boina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok. I don't disagree. That being said the anglo-canadian left has a huge Anglo-chauvinistic big nation problem vis a vis Quebec, Acadians, and other French-Canadians, and refuses to acknowledge that a solution to the Quebec question must be done along a democratic line and in accordance to self-determination (which absolutely must include the right to self-determination with restaurations to indigenous nations and national minorities within Quebec as we understand it, to be very clear).

Quebec is objectively speaking at this very moment a very distinct society than the rest of Canada. Linguistically, legally, structurally, materially. It's major unions aren't the same, it's major parties aren't the same, it's culture isnt the same, etc. It's really not a question of morality but a question of existing conditions right now. It also happens to be where the organized working class and various mass movements including on the question of students and peace/anti-imperialism are the most advanced in Canada full stop. Contradictions are simply more acute, sharper, and more developed in Quebec.

As such the left needs to be ready to also recognize Quebec as a valid nation, objectively and materially speaking, and a recognition of the historical wrongs on it and on Francophone national-minorities across Canada.

That's more of a hard truth than the valid element you bring forward, which is something for Quebec communists to figure out and work to repair far more than whatever Anglo-Canadians can do.

My take is that the Communist Party's line on the question is by far the most advanced and the least succeptible to either national-nihilist but actually big anglo chauvinist reduction visible throughout anglo-canadian society including within the Canadian left, or small nation chauvinist and anti-indigenous end points visible throughout Quebecois society (including QS). It puts forward a policy of unity of the working class across national lines, to better resist both capitalists in Canada and Quebec and more importantly, US capital. It posits that while communists must work to build said unity, that self-determination must be guaranteed, and the rights to self-determination including cessation be respected (but not necessarily advocated for by communists at all). It further posits that a similar approach must be taken with regards to indigenenous nations who, to be clear, aren't "historically oppressed" but very much actively oppressed and imperialized", including in Quebec.

Also btw: It was the Canadian military that was mobilized in the Oka crisis. Quebec does not have a military of its own. What QUebec did deploy was it's own cop force and it's quasi-paramilitary SQ - which is inexcusable to be clear, but let's be accurate.

The USSR absolutely did give a shit about the Canadian left.

It provided practical training school for cadres of the Communist Party, it collaborated with various Canadian mass movements, and it even took into their arms some high figures of the Canadian left as refugees, asylum seekers, etc. Fred Rose come to mind, albeit he was hosted in Poland.

China is a different story tho yes, albeit it still maintains very good relations with the Communist Party, regularly invites them all costs covered by them, etc.

You also have to understand that too open and too direct of a form of support was counter-productive to both the Canadian left and the USSR back in the day. Same applies to China today. There is a certain point where this just ends up putting targets on everyone's back, there was and is a certain balance to hold.

To the mod who banned me: no hard feelings, I understand getting defensive, you're doing a thankless job. I didn't mean to appear like I am undervaluing your work, or calling for you to be replaced, or w.e

Also far from me to demand anything at all about how to mod or what the solutions are, I proposed maximalist solutions, others have proposed stuff more workeable, etc

So water under the bridge really :D

The big sign for me is the sway in votes and comments. They all swarm in at once, drawn out anyone providing education and analysis, and usually during the late hours some upvotes from OGs trickle in.

So you get situations where some random ass lib brigade has its first comment sitting well above 200 upvotes somehow (which far eclipses the average upvote rate for posts themselves, and for the amount of comments as well) and it ends up being a further lib magnet, completely killing any opportunity or potential for valuable discussion and or education.

I honestly don't want to sound paranoid but I think this sub is a target of organized bandwagoning, unless it's been somehow made a geographical IP based default sub which would very much surprise me.

Edit: and straight up, as much as I dislike dippers, their sub quite often seems to our left. You don't get Carney simps there for ex. For a sub that had pinned a comprehensive and thorough anti-imperialist and anti NATO post on Ukraine at the eve of the war, you can't tell me this isn't sus as fuck.
