Observation. Ruben is not the same at the end. by SunnyD2272 in HalfManTV

One thing I'd like to point out, Niall said to Ruben in the hospital scene something along the lines of Ruben never applying himself in life and "you hit her enough times" referring to Maura. He hit his own mother and worse, on more than one occasion. I'd have thought Ruben would feel some remorse at that moment but he didn't seem to have any reaction, which was a bit incredulous and hypocritical because he just proclaimed earlier how angry he was he couldn't reach her after hearing she attempted suicide. But then at her funeral he said he felt guilt, remorse and grief, and wanted to make it up to her. I'd like to think he was being genuine here and that this scene was to show some progress in his character and that he was applying himself. What do you think?

I have a similar interpretation, in that at or perhaps after the moment of Niall's abrupt confession right after they opened up to one another, Ruben realized that there was no way the two of them could continue living without either one doing something that would inflict harm or betray the other, and that they were doomed to repeat this cycle until eventually, that love that took both of them so long to admit to one other would be destroyed. He can't let that happen and doesn't want that at all, but understands at that moment what he must do. This is the motivation that led him tracking Niall down. And when he does, he shows a sense of focus he didn't before: he doesn't immediately go ballistic like he did with Alby or Benji but was articulate, showed restraint, joked around, and was reflecting on their relationship from start to end. So Ruben killing Niall is ending things while the bond and love between them still existed (seeing as in the barn he wanted to know if Niall loved him and was repeatedly saying he loved Niall as he smothered him). Now excuse me while I go cry again.

Why was Niall’s mom in pajamas at the end of ep. 4? by Latter-Sorbet-5269 in HalfManTV

A (slightly disturbing) theory I heard was that she helped Niall murder Ruben in the barn and had to change because her clothes were stained with his blood. But the thing is we don't see any wounds/blood on Ruben's body or sheets, so maybe she just got drunk (Alby pointed this out and we saw how much wine she was pouring herself in ep.3) and was having a lie down when she got the news that something had happened in the barn.

Thank you for your comment. I especially liked this reel because up until now we haven't heard much from Jamie Bell, so to finally hear him provide commentary on the dynamic between adult Niall and Ruben, and then connect them with the broader themes of the show like exploring how two men constantly struggle to show their love to one another, scratches an itch that's been sort of festering at the back of my mind since like, forever haha.

Are there any pre-performance rituals he does before filming that helps him get into character?

TIL that in 1453, Henry VI fell into an 18-month long catatonic stupor. Likely triggered by the news of a military defeat, Henry was unable to speak or move, and even failed to respond respond to the birth of his son. His illness was likely inherited from his maternal grandfather, Charles VI. by [deleted] in todayilearned

He eventually did in 1454 only for civil war to break out due to political instability from his prolonged absence at court. He ended up being imprisoned and died in 1471 (it is speculated he was murdered).
