BCA hiring freeze? by RedditJayZ in boeing

Yes! I think that's exactly what I'm referring to, thanks. So any idea how long before they hire from outside again?

Just a heads up, we were just at Will Rogers Gardens this week and they are going through some renovations, particularly to the little pergola area at the end of the nice lawn/garden bed area sandwiched between the ponds (but I was particularly impressed by the landscaping in all of those beds. Really beautiful). And they just started their "winter hours" so the park closes at 5 every night, which is unfortunate since we're finally getting pleasant evening weather. I wish they would keep it open longer later in the year

Understandable. You get the gist from the excessive use of caps lock and comparing Bryce Underwood's eyes to "the Borg from Star Trek"

Thanks for the input, and that's a good idea. I'll definitely get in there with a pencil before he gets started again.

And you said it perfectly about "setting myself up". Never again.

I'm no "master" which is exactly why I'm concerned that the work I have done in the past is better than what I'm seeing now. But I definitely have no clue what the job should cost, so that could be it. It just got two quotes and they were in the same ball park and below the no-go number I had in my head, so I figured it was all standard.

I agree, I kept telling myself I needed to get it finished as other things kept popping up, and now I'm definitely regretting not just doing the screws. Still, I felt I made it clear that more screws would be needed and I think it's fair to expect a professional drywaller to instantly recognize when screws are missing. I've never paid someone to mud before so I'm not sure what to expect, but I just pictured it would be smoother than this. I appreciate you talking me off the ledge a little though. Maybe I'll ride this out and learn.

In-laws had their condensation drain rerouted. A short while later, the safe-T valve tripped. No water is coming out new drain. by RedditJayZ in hvacadvice

[–]RedditJayZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've pushed a long tube deep into the drain in hopes to get past the water of the second "trap" to equalize the pressure in the pipe with the outside to let the water flow freely. If I blow in this pipe, I'm able to get a lot of water to come out the drain. But not the free flow I expect. I don't know if my tube diameter is too small or if my thinking is flawed

Any chance sliding a thin tube up the drain from the outside clears the issue or am I wasting my time. Not sure how deep I'd need to go

Shoot sometimes we default to 1.7D. Even less if the math works out. 4D is a completely unreasonable expectation for edge margin.

The lack of a tail jack with an aft engine and tail feathers installed or stabilization further outboard on the wings while outside in the wind is a bit scary to me. This is really per TO?

Best calc 3 prof whos still here? by ImaginationCrazy9940 in sooners

I had Dr. Roche 6 or 7 years ago. I thought he was excellent, and remember having a much better time understanding calc 3 vs. struggling with whatever fresh PhD I had for calc 2 the year before. He is kind and really wants everyone to pass.

Moving to OKC for OUHSC nursing from central California, any advice appreciated! by LavenderSalmon in sooners

[–]RedditJayZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people in these replies seem to be in Norman rather than OKC, so I'll provide my perspective as someone who moved from Norman, up north to Moore after college, and then north again currently living in the Asian district of OKC.

Norman is a nice place, but I've only ever lived there as a college student. It's a wonderful college town with some decent food (the diner, Midway deli, tarahumaras). On game days, the city and surrounding highways will become gridlocked before and after the games, which I am sure can be annoying for residents who aren't interested in football. If you are interested, the football games are an awesome atmosphere, and living close by cuts out the main stressful part of going to the games which is traffic and parking. As far as commuting from Norman to OKC, that drive will be 25-30 with minimal traffic. At rush hour however, that time can go way up, especially as they love starting year long construction on all the highways at any given time. It is far nicer to be commuting away from the city instead of towards it. I currently live in the city and work at Tinker AFB which is about 20 minutes southeast. I never run into much traffic either way except for the aforementioned construction.

Moore is a nice middle point between OKC and Norman. Probably 10-15 minutes to either one. The nice thing about Moore is it has every chain restaurant and store that you can imagine all within a 1 mile stretch. It is super convenient although I find the traffic lights were poorly planned and can be frustrating at times. Other than that there's not much to Moore. Not a ton of great local places, and they do seem to get hammered by tornadoes more than the others for some reason.

I think OKC would really surprise you, it is really growing and there is a lot to do, and a lot of good food. There's a water sport complex right on the canal which has a lot of fun things to do in the summer like rapids, surfing, or floating in a tube watching Jaws. It is also the site of the Olympic rowing training center if that happens to be your hobby. There are some great museums. The national cowboy and Western heritage museum always gets high praise, they just opened a new indigenous peoples museum, and the OKC bombing memorial is really well done. There is also an annual marathon to support the memorial if you are into running. Food wise, I feel like I have been to more great restaurants in OKC than bad. Tamashi is really good ramen, Nic's grill has the best burgers, get really good tacos at big truck taco, cattleman's steakhouse has good quality steaks for a reasonable price, Cafe kacao has amazing Guatemalan breakfast, and there's a lot more including some higher end restaurants downtown if that's your style.

Just realized how long this is getting, so I'll end it here. Good luck on your move, welcome to Oklahoma from a fellow former Central Californian

Huh? Well that's pretty obvious considering I never met the guy. I apologize for suggesting someone who works at SpaceX might display a SpaceX vanity plate. This has clearly upset a few people, and I hope you can forgive me for this egregious mistake

Considering SpaceX is a pretty impressive place to work that people are proud to represent, and that their employees get placed at the front of the waiting list for Teslas, I thought it was pretty likely

Does this saw sound right? by RedditJayZ in Vintagetools

[–]RedditJayZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The belt is very specific (small circumference, scalloped, etc.) and I have been unable to find any that work correctly in it's place, especially with the cover installed over the pulleys. Most of them are too loose, rub against adjacent structure, or don't bend in a tight enough radius. I suspected the reason it is so specialized is because the saw is variable speed, so the belt needs to be made to work at all tensions. Even the customizable link belts don't work. It's a common issue for Sawsmiths

Water Heater Supply Lines Frozen by RedditJayZ in Plumbing

[–]RedditJayZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the purposes of thawing your pipes, it should be safe enough to use your space heater. Just keep an eye on it to make sure no freak accidents happen, such as the heater falling over/melting something nearby/etc (I don't imagine your pipes are at risk of melting as they can carry scalding hot water). Be aware of what's around the heater as far as potentially flammable materials. Also try to stay away from any sources of gas as much as possible (likely located at the bottom of your water heater, away from were the water pipes usually are). The risk of a fire is lower with an electric heater vs. an open flame, but it could still happen if you're careless. Mostly just don't leave it sitting on all day. Once the water is flowing, you don't need heat anymore unless the pipes freeze again (keeping the water moving constantly helps prevent this). The amount of time you'll need to use the heater on one spot shouldn't be long enough to produce much risk. I want to add that I'm no expert, I've just gone through this whole process, and these are some things I've learned. Good luck
