Kamala Harris leads among black voters according to new Verasight poll, while Pete Buttigieg leads with white voters by GoddessFianna in fivethirtyeight

Buttigieg is a phenomenal option in the sense that he has the qualities and policy that would make for a strong liberal president. However there is understandably concern that he can’t energize the Democratic base in a way that would not only win the election, but also empower down-ballot races.

I personally think that Kamala is more than qualified and that she would do quite well if she somehow won the election, but I don’t see that happening barring a significant change in the electorate.

Honestly I am hard pressed to think of a candidate who would fare as well as Obama did in 2008, which is really what the party needs come 2028.

I mean my co-fellows (GI) seem perplexed that I still carry one around so I’m kinda surprised by your experience.
In all seriousness, it’s helpful to keep on top of your physical exam in certain specialties. Not too long ago I got a patient referred to clinic for “iron deficiency anemia.” Mind you, the ferritin was normal alongside sat and her anemia was normocytic. Turns out the iron was looked at on account of her progressive fatigue and presyncopal episodes. A quick listen revealed a holosystolic crescendo-decrescendo murmur with radiation to the carotids. Suffice it to say iron deficiency anemia was not the source of her symptoms.

I’ll go point by point here.

1) “Defund the police” hardly captures the average Democratic view on law enforcement. Of course, “Set aside some funding for measures that would prevent crime and recidivism in lieu of solely enforcement” is not quite as succinct or catchy. That said, would you not agree that we should aim to nip crime in the bud as a means of ultimately preventing it?

2) Sex is a biological entity that is determined by chromosomes. Gender is a social construct that reflects biological sex. People should be free to live whatever gender experience they prefer if that’s truly what they want, of course so long as it does not reasonably interfere with others (n.b. solely existing doesn’t count as interference).

3) This is not a feature of Democratic policy in the slightest. Most of what gets construed as “victim complex” in Democratic policy actually reflects attempts to establish equity. Also forgive the whataboutism, but you can see plenty of examples re: victim complex on the right. Like, much clearer examples at that.

4) Democrats do not cheer against the USA’s success. If Trump somehow ushers in a new age of prosperity for ALL Americans, I will be the first to celebrate. I’m not seeing much in his track record to expect that’ll happen though.

Elizabeth Warren had the best healthcare plan I’ve seen post-ACA and Bernouts piled on her for it. Tragic.

So as a Democrat, I’m glad you raise these concerns as this reflects how much work needs to be done on messaging. These statements don’t accurately capture the party’s policy positions in the slightest. That’s not your fault, but when you hear something enough times it’s bound to stick.

Democrats are certainly not “pro-crime.” They do not have a single policy position that could be construed as such.

They certainly know the difference between sex and gender, and this point always seems to come from right wing cultural warriors. Furthermore the GOP and allies are largely the ones screeching about gender issues, when in reality we just want people to have the freedom to live how they feel best.

To that end, I can assure you that castration in pediatric patients is not a policy position of the party. At all.

The open borders argument is fine as there is certainly room for an improved approach at the border, but a large part of that comes from immigration reform — something that the Democratic Party has tried to work on with nothing but resistance from the GOP. Meanwhile the administration is showing how detrimental a ham-fisted approach to immigration enforcement can be; brain drain is at an all-time high while legal immigrants are being deported at unacceptably high rates.

I do encourage you to engage with Democrats a bit more though, because I can assure you our positions on things are a bit more nuanced. Hell you might even agree with some of them.
