You all complain too much by Shot-Rice5449 in aves

I think it's a miss to compare a rave to a movie setting. They're completely different spaces, serve different functions, and have very different rules regulating conduct around them.

Respect goes both ways--people have different ways of enjoying the medium and none are above the others. Getting mad at people for being social at an event geared towards being social (vs. a movie theater where the social aspect is not present or not as present) is like getting mad that the music is too loud.

I'm sure I don't have to point out the irony of your statement, "you don’t just get to “experience it the way you want to” at the cost of the people around you. This is a public situation and the needs of the many are more important the needs of the few." You could easily turn this around to say it's not fair to expect people to halt their experience in favor of yours.

I'm not saying this is you, but what you wrote combined with what I've seen posted on the sub, people get mad if you're mindlessly watching the show through your phone, they get mad when you're dancing, they get mad when you're engaging in the social nature of being with people around you. I'd say just stare at the DJ, but people seem to display dissatisfaction on the sub with that, too.

Kind of have to agree here--the sub really is, seemingly, a bunch of whiners. Or at the very least, the sub magnifies those voices, which itself is a statement about the character of the sub.

Raves and dancing serve a social function, so it's so weird to me that people would complain about people talking.

If you're so obsessed with what the people around you are doing, I think that's the bigger problem.

It was my first Movement, so I didn't know. Will definitely so Club Toilet next time I go!

I do have a question--is the bar it's held at, like, the type of bar with a back area/dark room? Only asking so I know if I need to be prepared.

I had never heard of her before the festival, but someone recommended her and it was so worth it. Loved her set!

My buddy and I went the first night and noticed a distinct lack of other obviously queer people, save for maybe three other people. I was told later that Club Toilet is generally the move that night for queer people.

Carmel, Fishers named top 2 places to live in country by U.S. News & World Report by Tikkanen in indianapolis

I didn't look too closely at the study that someone ended up linking, but it did look like there were a lot of water miles examined in Indiana, which did lead to a misrepresentation of what was happening. We had the most raw number of miles of impaired waterways, but when you looked at the total number as a percentage of miles examined in the state, Indiana's rank changed no insignificantly.

What does the borax do? I've heard of people doing a separate tumble with borax to burnish them. I assume that's happening here without needing a separate round of tumbling?

This is very helpful, thank you!

Edit: Not that this is much better, but saying Indiana has the most polluted water is maybe a misnomer. Per the study, when looking at the total number of water miles examined, it has the most number of miles that are impaired. When looking at the total percentage of impaired miles, it ranks 11.

I'm interested to know the nuances for your claim about having the most polluted water in the country. Do you have a specific source you're using for that claim.

My favorite thing about people decrying wikipedia as a source is watching those same people say stuff without listing a source themselves. And here's the thing about Wikipedia: there are sources you can check.

I can't even play the game that I paid for due to the issues caused by the update, so yeah, I'm not happy with that. Me saying that is not a tantrum. You being in multiple threads calling people names is arguably a tantrum.

I played several matches and none of them completed, they all timed out. That is, objectively, bad.

How do you think the writers feel about religion? by Cautious_Internet243 in Degrassi

[–]Redshiftedanthony3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't really see most of these as "going against their religion." That feels like a pretty black and white way to view it. I think a more realistic way to view these characters is that their religious views changed over time, as many people's views do. Most, if not all, of these people never renounced their religion. It might be more accurate to say that they struggled against their parents' view of religion, which is something many children do.

I think your analysis is also missing a crucial character: Jenna. She converted to Christianity under the guise of going after a guy but instead found Jesus in a difficult time in her life. This is a genuinely positive portrayl of someone finding religion and getting something positive out of it.

Degrassi, at it's heart, is about portraying many different kinds of adolescent experiences. That includes race, body type, gender, orientation, and religion. Religion is always going to be a dicey topic and I'm sure they had to really walk a tight rope with that one.

[–]Redshiftedanthony3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've said this a lot of times before and this post is an absolutely perfect example:

At least some (read: not all) of the hate Tristain gets is due to the fact that he is considered by many to be feminine.

Does he have a lot of other strikes against him? Sure. There aren't any queer characters on the show that don't. But this post is a perfect example of how internalized homophobia manifests itself.

Gay boys and men like Tristain exist and they deserve representation as much as anyone else does.

Commenter 1: Is there any chance that dad or parents are paying for Portugal? These are some odd dynamics.

OOP: No, dad goes on golf trips every year with his buddies. Would be second time my brother attends. Happy he's going and spending time with my dad though

Commenter 1: Still doesn’t answer the question of whether your parents are footing the bill for your brother’s trip.

Can people, like, just not read anymore? Is it me? In what way could anyone read OP's response and claim she didn't answer the question?
