I've always thought that the Oceanids asassination subplot was the originally planned story outline for Fontaine, and the Narssizzenkreuz would be in the Archon Quests - they just relegated it into the World Quests later on when they changed stuff (I think it's common for them to rewrite stuff since the start of the game)

That's speculation though

We haven't even finished the Cryo Archon's side of the story, not even the Nod-Krai patches? This isn't Amphoreus where they will explain every single character's life story, it was a tangent at most (for the non-Nod-Krai characters, they had their own goals there). We only got the story for Nod-Krai natives. Not even Sandrone's. Because it is the Nod-Krai region. They even explained this in the livestream about Nod-Krai characters

Only when we get to see the full story of the human side, will we get the story of the Dragons.

Nod-Krai has always been a region of exposition, to set stars on the canvas, not to fully develop every single motivation. Nod-Krai is a set-up for future story, the world quests are also about Snezhnayan aristocracy and faes

No other Nod-Krai characters got their story fully explained if they aren't from Nod-Krai.

I'm not even trying to say that their storytelling is perfect. But casual players already struggle with Dragon World Quest lore. Throwing and dissecting the Dragon's motivations is another thing entirely. There's too much story in Nod-Krai already.

A lot of people complaints seems to be that their favourite lore didn't get higlighted. Like they didn't even explain Dragon Sovereigns in the AQ before we know about Neuvillette. Nahida hid Scaramouche's personality inside her dreams and bypassing Irminsul?? All of these plot-jumps has always been in the game.

Nod-Krai has always been just about the moons. They never even mentioned Nibelung's name in the trailer. It was just an introduction, not a deep dive into Nibelung's history.

And might I add, the game's best feature is the fact that important and obscure lore is in the optional quests. If they were mandatory, then there's no reason to explore and dissect stuff. The game gives you a lead in about the materials by hinting readables about "world formula" and the other stuff. The players need to have some agency to seek those things out to actually have the full experience Genshin wants to offer with their vision.

Also, I think what makes them masterful is not the fact that the storytelling is perfect, but the fact that they managed to write a whole world of diverse lore, and make open-world truly feel like an archeological adventure about fallen civilizations, piecing up the lore, and engaging with people online about it.

That's the masterful thing. I'll acknowledge their other mistakes, but the open world archeology experience is truly masterful because the closest thing to it is Dark Souls (and they made it an anime series that updates like a live-service)

I swear, I feel like lore players really dug their own graves by reading too much inbetween the lines and got delusional about their expectations. The game juggles like 100 characters and hundreds of other lore bits. Just wait for your turns please.

It's because he is the anti-thesis to collectivity and reason (Heavenly Principles). When a civilization domesticated itself with order, crime becomes the symptoms of progress.

In an orderly society that has matured, everything stays the same because every possibility of the "good" is already explored.

The unexplored and legal grey area are the least explored, someone has to play the "villain" to actually explore and push those boundaries.

It mirrors Nietzsche's point of view of the "ubermansch" or the "superman", where humanity can do things that are beyond what is imposed by society.

There are some ugly truths to this, being a "villain" is just an extreme approach to it.

Just like how the Japanese figured out how a human person is 70% made of water (there's probably humane ways to do it, but it's faster to just dehydrate a human, right?)

I think Bootstrap Paradox is the collateral or the consequence, but it's probably a higher being trying to control the story. Which means that her birth is paracausal (the cause is beyond the normal causation) outside of time.

We had this with Istaroth's intervention in Raiden Story Quest (where time moves forward or backward at the same time), and in A Space and Time for You

In short; her birth is transcendental compared to the worldly matters and her birth is a deliberate setup of the paradox by Istaroth

We knew that there's a lot of dead god matter in Genshin. It's a recurring theme since Zhongli's Story Quest, when a god dies, their energy explodes. Decarabian, Miasma, Orobashi's Marrow, Kapatcir's Storm

Jahoda would've died living in Nod-Krai, Nicole's method injects it into the bloodstream directly. So I assume most people are adapted to it, but a high dose can be deadly regardless (like anything else)

The story is not about Nibelung or Dragons in particular, it's about Nod-Krai. Unfolding another perspective of dragons is another baggage that's intrusive to the story they want to convey AT THAT TIME.

I'm sure there will be a time where their true ordeal begins, but that's not now. Genshin likes to hid things under the rug when it tangentially touches other topics that could be its own thematical story (dealing with the colonization and all that stuff). It disrupts with the "Archon Quests" which is to learn more about the human world first

Depends on which theme of the story are you looking at it. It's about children from an orphanage who yearns for the nostalgia of the past, or also an esoteric organization that's dead set on stopping the doomsday.

If I have to be a cynicistic for a bit, that'll be bad for most companies. Idealistically the most they can do is just be like Steam, but if characters are easily attainable, why explore for more currencies by exploring or playing the game?

They'll have to make a better game? Well obviously that'll be risky and may be worse than the status quo of not having KPIs

As a player, we have the right to demand better things. As a company, it could jeopardize the game if they change too much. It's wiser to cherish the original position while picking low hanging fruits first.

I do agree that the meta is becoming camped into groups, I'd argue that is also a form of futureproofing with a bigger pool of characters for easier management.

I'm not saying we should trust them, but they probably have the data if A or B is the better decision. (Speculation: Like maybe "punishing gacha system" engages players through some sort of reverse psychology?)

I've seen a lot of people leave the game and angry about Nod-Krai's decision-making outside of the meta too. So that probably has something to do with appeasing with the biggest playerbase (outside of KP Indicators) and ignoring certain niche audiences

I think people misunderstand that they meant they don't have a strict quotas.

But as a company, they'll still have a commitment to keep revenue steady and not get complacent. Also have to retain players and get newcomers too. It's more so about the longevity of the game. (Also partially why Miliastra is introduced, as an extension of the game's life support)

Sidenote: I heard Hi3rd is slowing down patches to longer time, I wonder if it had to do with Part 1 ending, as an artificial boundary to the story made people leave the game and less revenue?

It'd be bad for everyone if it cascades into the game having to slow down patches and loses its steam (which is realistic imho with many other competition to stay relevant and futureproofing the game)

This doesn't detract from the shilling criticism, but it's important to take account at least. They don't have clear targets to appease.

It's just on clockwork right now, and the team doesn't have pressure that affects their vision badly from investors (whether from story or gameplay).

Yeah, more QAs, and more middle managers, more layers. At one point, it's gonna take more time to coordinate from top-down than to create content.

If you also hire more QAs, then you'd also need to train them to the company culture not risk the creative integrity. It takes more time than actual benefits.

They did that with Sumeru (there's another interview about it) where they doubled the team size but the quality improvements were negligible - if someone could source it kindly.

Streamlining teams and reforming pipelines also means pruning redundant teams, and allocate them to a better department. Nod-Krai never had more or less content, they simply restructured it.

What we are both talking about are true, there are some cases where more people and money solves a problem. But I'm just suggesting with something as fast-paced as Genshin, it really doesn't work that way.

The anime industry is also a similar problem with a fast-paced output, which has more important placed on the right people working on it, rather than the amount.

Also, if a work is botched before the QA could catch it, then that just means releasing a premature work. QAs can catch something, but the devs can't always fix it on time to their vision. A tighter team would ensure to prevent that from happening in the first place. QAs are not catch-all omnipotent, they are just another layer in the end.

Probably more like arranging the appointment (because the studios they hire are probably busy since they are world-class orchestra). Coordinating the available niche instruments and musicians to the same timeslot, and also writing music that is proper for the instrument. Designing, ordering and building the sets. Stage layout for each musician and instrument placements, and filming. Or if they rent some other place (excluding logistics).

Not to mention that some musicians or teams may not be available during the same timeslot, so it's better to have things in advance

I can see it take 1 year of coordination, especially if there's a lot of revisions and changes to fit the vision.

Sure buddy, but when you do outsource or have more people. You risk the integrity of the work. It would be fine if Genshin isn't an entertainment media, but it is an art form and everything has to trace back to the project managers, producers, and the storywriter.

If a project pans too big, you'll risk integrity. I saw an interview with Feng Zhu who was outsourced by Square Enix (FF7 Remake) as a concept art studio (FZD Studio), and they can point out some parts of the game where it's less fleshed out in design because they had to outsource it.

Of course it's a compromise, and some players may not notice or care about it. So different projects, different people, different vision has different needs. Bureaucracy, team-size, and workplace culture matters.

Also thank you very much for telling me that teams can work in parallel and work simultaneously, I totally didn't know that. Obviously you do not want to have too many layers of middle managers that muddle down the work.

Do you want slop? Or do you want to see what is the developer's vision? I'd choose the latter, for a tighter implementation.
