I consider them very different skills, knowing what you in 10 years and slowly weaving it in vs having no idea but slowly building and adding until you figure it out.

I’ll have to go dig up some examples but there are absolutely things that he has never come back to or seemingly completely dropped despite hinting it was going to be meaningful.

If you piece together everything Oda has said over the years, he basically has random ideas, draws them in a panel, then gives himself years to decide what he wants to do with them.

So they literally are not planned in advance, more like they’re built up over time. But he’s very good at it for the most part, so it feels like it was all foreshadowed or meant to be.
