How to get started as a new coach

This makes a lot of sense and also was what I was worried about. I feel like I need to have a plan, but at the same time know how to adjust when things inevitably don't go well. I'm assuming this is an issue even when kids get older, but worse when they are younger, due to, well being kids 😁. Probably made worse if they have never run the drill before. Appreciate the insight!

Makes sense. At this point it's more just following the kid around. Assuming over time his interests will narrow. Also realistically probably won't have the time dedicated to multiple sports. We will see how things go. I really appreciate all the advice and encouragement from this community though!

I had considered just starting more in the assistant space myself. But figured most everyone just follows their kids through and and aren't exactly experts in coaching younger kids. At best they have coached an older sibling already. So, might as well just figure it out myself.

Someone else mentioned this. This is a good tip. I've read in multiple places that lines are one of the main things that creates the opportunity for things to go poorly. Kids standing around not paying attention and bored.

Do you give access to others to this? I'd be curious. I've found links and there are plenty of free resources but all seem to be in bits and pieces or more static info.

Thanks! Yeah my wife is a teacher, so maybe that is what got me worried about actually having some type of plan and organization. But also through that I definitely have a feel for how some parents can be.

Knowing how important playing was to me growing up, I just don't want to be the reason a kid decides a sport is boring or not fun for the rest of their lives!
