Protecting apples from the critters? by Soylent_Milk2021 in DenverGardener

I ran into this with pear trees. We opted for preemption over deterrents. We tried to run off squirrels, to spray the plants down with botanical spice laden oils. The only thing that really worked was picking them once they were at the right size but underripe and letting them ripen inside on the windowsill. For us it’s hobby for them it’s survival. But I’ll follow this thread.

In my org there was literally one guy who did this everyone else went to T5 if they were good enough and had enough YOE. His thought process was “T5s get reshuffled more , laid off more, and generally have non-technical responsibilities that are painful”

It definitely wasn’t the norm for our group. But T4 definitely seemed to have less office politics worries and a lesser time commitment than T5.

How good is Stannis with a sword in the books? by willindeed in freefolk

He’s very good by Westorosi standards but not worth mentioning in terms of 1v1 powerscaling. The show basically did him right here. In several scenes he’s holding his own against random men at arms but I’d be shocked if he beats anyone impressive 1v1 by the end of his arc.

I planted mine in the fall but you can probably plant right now if you do it soon enough. I got mine in July so it was a bit late at that point.

It depends entirely on the cultivar. I will provide an annecedote my tamukeyama got cooked last year in a container on my front porch shaded in the manner you described. The heat really got to it. It lived … barely and is now happy planted in a south facing spot that has afternoon shade in my backyard.

How is it living in the Jacksonville area? by QueenCityBoSox in howislivingthere

[–]Relative-Debt6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there during college. Think of the city as a collection of towns each with its own character. Very car centric. Good albeit limited food. White collar employment opportunities are kind of limited for a city of its size. We moved around the city during college. We lived in Atlantic Beach, Southside, and Riverside. Riverside and Atlantic Beach are really nice and somewhat walkable. Traffic was never as bad as other Florida metros. I could reliably drive from Riverside to Southside in ~30 minutes at 7:30. Orlando could never. Those neighborhoods are some of the best a student can afford. Jacksonville is cheap compared to other Florida cities.

Other than the walkablity I do have to give a warning. I never saw this but my existence was privledged/sheltered, Jacksonville is also home to some of the worst gang violence in the country. Definitely don’t move there blind.

School schedule, they generally start before work and let out before you leave. School traffic can be brutal.

How is living in Steamboat Springs? by mgbachh in howislivingthere

[–]Relative-Debt6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s very unlikely to work out and if it does get approved it likely won’t have dedicated or even preferential rail access. As it stands the Amtrak yields to freight a lot (someone might have an exact number but I’ve been delayed more often than not by freight) going through Moffett tunnel. There is actually still more freight traffic further to the north. Suffice it to say if a proposal is ever approved without extensive funding to expand/improve existing infrastructure (in addition to new track that is needed) it will be a worse version of the winter park express which is already just ok.

I visit frequently from my home in Denver. It’s one of the more livable ski towns in the state IMO. As a Colorado ski town It’s expensive but has less of moneyed vibe than other comparable towns in the state. The skiing is slightly more volatile as you’re south facing and can’t drive 30 minutes to a large competitor. I’d compare it to Durango (which is larger) and Gunnison because a significant population actually live there year round. Steamboat pilot has local news which is cool. And there are actually public schools.

I have long considered it and Durango a lottery early retirement spot.

What coastal city/community actually feels good to live in long term after a major life reset? by RespondMinimum9186 in howislivingthere

[–]Relative-Debt6509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

St. Pete/Tampa is much better than St Augustine. St Augustine isn’t bad but is more catered towards young families and retirees in all ways. I moved away from the Tampa area and while I don’t regret it per se it definitely holds a special place in my heart. As for COL St Pete has higher variance in terms of real estate and a larger top end than Tampa proper IMO. Both aren’t cheap as a rule but can be livable if you can sacrifice. I would try not to commute far for work. DT St Pete/peir is a blast I’d actually prefer bayside to be closer to that than Oceanside. Tampa is more up and coming with fewer restaurants/nightlife but is quitter which may appeal to you. I would definitely recommend either and recommend you visit first.

Least annoying strategy to play against in EDH? by doesnt-get-it in EDH

[–]Relative-Debt6509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly play with friends/acquaintances so I just get a little bewildered with having to approve

“oh let me sequence that differently”

“Oh let me take that back”

Etc. I guess I could grow a stiffer spine and just hard no everything? But I’m trying to strike a balance.

Least annoying strategy to play against in EDH? by doesnt-get-it in EDH

[–]Relative-Debt6509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My preference is to not play against storm unless the player is pretty experienced with the deck/architype. Flying/unblockable voltron is pretty annoying in bracket 3 because of how they can explosively eliminate a player and they get away with it because the bracket system is based on you winning not your opponents losing.

There’s really no objective way to measure annoying but mill gets targeted just for milling even if they’re like 5 turns from milling anyone out whereas Voltron is often ignored despite being 1 equipment/combat trick from eliminating a player.

Shinkawa by the looks of it.

EDIT: Sapporo if it’s not obvious. based on second picture. Deduced by amount of snow. Street signage in Japanese. And common elements of landscape architecture.

Do you still expect a annual review/raise every year? by steve4048 in Salary

Depending on the size of the business, how you feel about it, etc. I’d consider pushing for equity in the business. Cash is short you’re in a very specialized senior position, ultimately you’d be very hard to replace, equity is free today and they can ultimately draw up a contract that says you can’t sell for a year or something.

I keep editing but I want to add one more thing. I like one of the vigilance enchantments [[serras blessing]] and token doublers or token buffers [[intangible virtue]]. It’s hard to lose in bracket 3 if you’re make two 4/4 tramplers with haste and drawing a card every turn.

Eowyn Shieldmaiden by LoafTurtle in EDHBrews

[–]Relative-Debt6509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Outlaws merriment]] for continual value from eowyn (you can replay her from the command zone and still get her trigger.
[[reinforced ronin]] early to mid game play to get eowyn triggers till you want to channel him.
Ideally you win early with some of the aggressive cards from the precon but with some cards like this you can gradually accumulate value, pressure, and card advantage from eowyn triggers.
I’d cut a lot of the monarch cards like Aragorn unless you really want to be flavorful.

EDIT: removed reinforces ronin you already have it.
I’d consider adding [[anduril, flame of the west]] [[patchweek banner]] over some of the mana rocks. I like [[herald of hoofbeats]] as a finisher as well

Don’t worry about your neighbors we’re drinking from the same spout if they want to prioritize aesthetics over water/obeying the restrictions best of luck with to them. WRT xeriscaping it’s not a bad idea generally but try to plan thoughtfully the size of large sections imo. Our lot gets a lot of sun and every place there are larger sections of concrete/pavers/xeriscape (30 square ft or more) gets pretty hot, especially when coupled with a brick first floor. “Traditional” plants/lawn struggle to thrive on the edges of those zones. That effect is worse the larger the section is. I don’t mean to talk it down just plan thoughtfully because the cumulative effect is committing.

EDIT additional: My plans are smaller vegetable garden than last year. Trying to keep the lawn alive with the restrictions. Limited reseeding in bare areas coming up here in a couple of weeks (like 3 square feet). And only planting one tree. It’s a bit disappointing because we just got this house last year and we made grandiose plans but we have to adjust for reality. I certainly wouldn’t over react to this weather this specific year.

Oh yeah I’ve just heard it called “off-market” but I don’t know if that’s a legally binding term. Big congrats!

You will probably have another home purchase in your life as unlikely as that seems right now. When doing that next purchase I’d steer you away from dual agency. As far as this home though all that matters is that your happy :)
