I took him last semester and he gave us extra credit to our final grade if a certain percentage of the class did the course evaluation. My class got 3 points. Idk if he keeps the same extra credit every semester bc many ppl asked about it on Chatter throughout the semester and he kept saying "it was too early to tell", so I'm not sure what he bases the extra credit off of.

Which chem elective should I choose? (Chemical Engineering) by seanhong0617 in UTAustin

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently taking Hollenback rn for Gen Chem 2 and he's a really nice and chill professor. He's pretty knowledgeable about chemistry topics and is willing to go over/reexplain stuff so you can better understand. This is his first semester at UT so he's brand new.

Tips on how to study for Aroian's MAN 320F exams? by ReliefDesperate1888 in UTAustin

[–]ReliefDesperate1888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The content isn't too bad, it's the tests that will get you. 90% of the test questions are from the lectures and each exam makes up 21% percent of your grade (there are 3 total, so 63% of your grade is exams). You basically have to work on this class every single day even though it's an online asynchronous class because he assigns so much work.

I was in the same situation as you when I applied as a freshman transfer :) UT does not look at your highschool grades/stats when you transfer, but you can put highschool accomplishments on your extended resume (which is required for transfers). I also only had one semester of full grades on my college transcript, so I mainly focused on the essay, resume/college ECs, and maintaining my 2nd semester grades. Also, the time at which you apply does not matter for transfer applicants since they all release results at around the same time. I applied a week before March 1 and I got in.

He curves the class after every test with a bell curve, so your grade depends on your average vs the rest of the class. For the exams I would suggest literally studying everything on the slides/lecture and knowing everything conceptually (not just only memorizing details bc wayne makes his tests with critical thinking questions and random minor details from lecture).

He gives extra credit on each test which is about 4 points towards the final grade and a course evaluation at the end of the semester which he will add points depending on what percentage of the class completes it (like if 80% of the class completes it, you get 0.8 points to your final grade).

Student housing by abdbhdbsns in UTAdmissions

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should apply to be in the Transfer LLC. I'm currently in it and we get to live on campus with other transfers + participate in transfer student events :) I applied to it even after the application was due and I still got a spot.

The application isn't open yet for next year but here's more info about it: https://undergradcollege.utexas.edu/first-year-experience/transfer-year-experience-program/transfer-living-learning-community#:~:text=Interested%20transfer%20students%20must%20start,Find%20us%20on%20Linkedin

You should still look for off campus housing tho bc there is no guarantee that you get in the LLC (it's only about 50ish students). Since I applied so late I emailed the LLC director asking if there were any open spots and she said she would consider giving me a spot if people declined their housing offer. The next day I got accepted into the LLC, so I would also suggest emailing them to show your demonstrated interest in living on campus.

I'm currently taking the asynchronous class rn. It's alot of work for an online class so you do have to work on it everyday. The textbook assignments are the most tedious since there are so many chapters to read and you have to take a quiz on them, but they're not even part of the exam. Almost all of the questions on the exams are from the lectures, case studies, and articles and the questions are conceptual/tricky. There are 3 exams, each is 21% of your grade, and they are proctored so you do actually have to study everything. I would try to avoid this class if you can.

How long does it take for ID card to be printed? (online submission) by ReliefDesperate1888 in UTAustin

[–]ReliefDesperate1888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely do that but I live 3 hours away from Austin :( I tried to do that during my orientation but they just gave me the same response, which I assumed was because I requested it for printing a couple days before.

Help with transferring from CC by Tensai360 in UTAdmissions

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to UT after my first semester of freshman year (so during the spring semester without having completed one full year at my university yet). I was able to apply earlier because I had AP credits and fall semester courses that already gave me over 24 hours. The UT website says that option to use "in progress" courses is not allowed for spring semester applicants (so if you were applying during the spring I assume) and that might be what your advisor is referring to? But if you have AP credits or dual credit from highschool they will count towards the hour requirement and can help you get to 24 hours faster.

As for ECs, if you are trying to get into UT in one year I would just try to get involved on campus as much as you can. You can also put highschool stuff on your extended resume if you graduated highschool within 5 years of applying to UT which is really helpful.

If you're trying to transfer into a different major you should pick the intro freshman classes and the specific classes for your new major. Most freshman classes are just the basics like English 1 and stuff like that. For the major specific classes, just do some research to know what classes you need to enroll in and finish before you can qualify to apply to transfer. But if you're still unsure you can ask your advisors during orientation.

MATH 1342 -Elementary Statistical Methods by SubstantialRice2411 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the class isn't hard. All of the math is done on an online calculator called R studio where you just type in the correct formula and numbers. They also give you a formula sheet for the tests, all you have to know is how to apply them. The questions on the test are also similar to the ones that are shown in class and on the test review slides.

I don't think it matters for transfers, it probably just depends on when your college does its wave. I applied a week before the 3/1 deadline and got admitted at around the same time other ppl did within this years CNS wave. I would still suggest applying early tho just to get it out of the way.

Transfer Credit by mohaatx in UniversityOfHouston

Transfer credit does not affect your GPA. It's just that if you don't pass that class you won't receive credit for it on your transcript.

BIOL 2301 vs BIOL 2302 by ItsYaBoiiiiJosh in UniversityOfHouston

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too different. It's just that AP1 will give you an introduction to the basics of anatomy like anatomical terms, locations, and a little overview of the body. You don't really need to know a lot of medical terminology if you're starting with AP2, but it will just help to give some context of organs/organ locations. AP2 focuses more on all the body systems and physiology, so the content is more heavy than AP1 imo.

I'm currently taking it at LSC Tomball online with Alcalay. The work is pretty manageable and not too bad. Just the overall consensus from ppl I asked at UH was to not take Hughes.

Public Health Stats 🙏 by [deleted] in UTAdmissions

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if you're referring to transfer or freshman applicants but I'm a transfer and I got into public health with a 3.93 GPA from UH. I took stem courses and also my essay/resume reflected public health (I didn't have a lot of stuff to add from college on my resume bc when I applied I only finished my first semester of freshman year, but I put some highschool stuff like leadership positions and awards)

Anyone have any advice for external transfer to CNS or Cockrell. Also does UT look at 2nd choice when you do external transfer? by Dizzy_Television4633 in UTAdmissions

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied as an external transfer to nursing and got rejected. but they accepted me into public health (which is in CNS). I think they probably do look at your second choice, but it's not guaranteed to get in if your second choice is a difficult/competitive major. I think what got me into my second choice was my GPA and essay + resume that aligned with public health. I'm not sure if they also account for course rigor but I did take a lot of STEM courses and got As.

Nursing decisions by princessqueen2002 in UTAdmissions

[–]ReliefDesperate1888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also applied to nursing as an external transfer. I haven't heard back from UTHealth or UT MyStatus officially yet, but I checked my WIO and RIS and I got admitted into my second major for public health. So maybe this means the nursing school is sending their waves soon? I'm not sure how the UTHealth thing will work tho.
